Fülöpháza and the Dune (Garmada) Study Trail

The Dune (Garmada) Study Trail is a specific starting point for a stay in Fülöpháza. The 8.5-kilometre trail has 14 information boards. They cover current natural assets, the distinctive flora and associated fauna, as well as the human transformation of the landscape in this core area of the national park. The trail length and its topics give you two specific points of reference for planning.

The trail begins at the Naprózsa Forest School. Two alternative endpoints are provided: one in the centre of Fülöpháza and one at Somodi Farm. When planning your route, the choice of endpoint is therefore relevant in addition to the starting point.

Naprózsa House and Getting There

Naprózsa House is a starting point for trips into the dune landscape; visits are possible by prior arrangement. It is located near the Lakos-tanya bus stop. From Kecskemét, the stop can be reached by scheduled buses travelling along Route 52 in the direction of Dunaföldvár. As bus services can change, check the latest information with the operator before travelling.

Birdlife of the Sand Dunes

The Fülöpháza Sand Dunes are home to the golden oriole, hoopoe, European roller and European bee-eater. These are four specific bird species associated with the natural environment of the dune landscape.

More Sights in the Wider Destination of Bács-Kiskun

The Boróka Study Trail in Bugac is 1,100 metres long. In addition to its information boards, it has interactive features such as a forest xylophone and a play telescope. Compared with the Dune (Garmada) Study Trail in Fülöpháza, it is considerably shorter; at the same time, interactive features are explicitly part of the experience there.

Lake Szelidi offers a different natural attraction in the wider destination of Bács-Kiskun: it is a natural oxbow lake that developed from a branch of the Danube after the Ice Age. The study trail about the lake's blue-green algae has twelve information stations covering the lake's development, the properties of its water, the organisms living there and the surrounding wildlife. It is accessible on foot and by bicycle throughout the year. Local conditions can change; check them before your visit.

In Tiszaalpár, the Tiszaalpár, Földvár study trail presents the history of the Bronze Age fortification of Tiszaalpári Földvár and the way of life of people in the Bronze Age. A reconstruction of an Árpád-era village, built to mark the millennium, depicts the settlement layout discovered during local excavations. Tiszaalpári Földvár is a specially protected archaeological site; it was designated as such under Decree 3/2003. (I. 25.) NKÖM.

At the Kiskunhalasi Csipkeház and Csipkemúzeum, you can learn about the history of Halas lace, admire lacework that is centuries old, and see the lace-making process. The history of Halas lace began in 1902.
