Lakitelek can be explored through several distinct themes: the Kontyvirág Nature Trail showcases oxbow lakes and floodplain landscapes, while visitors can explore the natural sciences interactively at the Hungarikum Exhibition House. Local history, footgolf and horse-riding lessons add further highlights. For planning your trip, it is helpful to distinguish between them: depending on whether you are looking for nature, culture or physical activity, different attractions will be the main focus.

Nature Trail and Floodplain Landscape

The 3.5-kilometre Kontyvirág Nature Trail in Lakitelek-Tőserdő is marked in yellow and follows a loop. Information boards accompany the route, where visitors can explore an oxbow lake and a floodplain forest. The landscape along the trail is shaped by the Szikrai and Alpári Holt-Tisza oxbow lakes and the surrounding floodplain and swamp forests, floodplain marshes and wet meadows. The trail is impassable during major floods. If you plan to walk the trail, check local conditions in light of this flood risk.

Natural Sciences and Local History

At the Hungarikum Exhibition House, visitors can explore the world of natural sciences interactively. A modern planetarium is used for stargazing and is the eighth stargazing facility in Hungary. The planetarium provides a specific highlight within the broader range of natural science offerings.

The carvings on the Leader's stone yurt depict important events in Hungarian history—from the Avar period to Hungary's accession to the EU. St. Stephen's Chapel offers a different historical perspective: it was built on a secular rather than a church initiative. The Christian Pantheon in the square in front of the chapel has commemorated martyrs and believers of the historic churches of the Carpathian Basin since June 2000.

Footgolf and Horse-Riding Lessons

Covering 7.5 hectares, Nimród Footgolf Park features an 18-hole footgolf course. Its nature trail complements the sporting focus with educational content: visitors can learn more about the history of the people who lived here, as well as the flora and fauna of the Alföld landscape. Vaspatkó Riding Stable offers individual riding lessons in the afternoon to outside visitors and hotel guests. The activities differ in format: one features an 18-hole course, the other individual afternoon lessons. When planning your day, you can consider whether a set course or individual instruction matters more to you.

The broader Bács-Kiskun destination offers other distinct cultural attractions. In Tiszaalpár, the Tiszaalpár, Földvár trail presents the history of the Bronze Age fortified settlement of Tiszaalpári Földvár and the way of life of people in the Bronze Age. The archaeological site is specially protected; it was designated as such under Decree 3/2003. (I. 25.) NKÖM.

In Kiskunhalas, visitors can learn about the history of Halas lace, which began in 1902, at the Kiskunhalasi Csipkeház and Lace Museum. They can also admire lacework dating back centuries and watch the lace-making process.

The trails also offer a clear comparison of lengths: the Boróka Trail in Bugac is 1,100 metres long. Information boards and interactive features, such as a forest xylophone and a play telescope, accompany the route. At 3.5 kilometres, the Kontyvirág Nature Trail is longer than the Boróka Trail.
