Feked can be explored through several specific interests: sacred architectural history, the culture of the Swabians of Feked, marked trails and an annual village festival. If you are looking for a hotel for a trip to Feked, these differences can help you plan your days: an organized village tour takes you through the center on a short walk, the green-marked circular trail takes several hours, and the educational trail focuses on local customs and festivals. This lets you shape your stay around the topics that interest you most.

Church architecture, houses and places of remembrance

The Roman Catholic church in Feked is dedicated to the Holy Trinity. It was built in the Baroque style in 1765 on the site of a former wooden church and enlarged in 1846. The two dates mark its construction and later enlargement. The houses in the village also tell a story of architectural change: Feked has numerous renovated houses. In the early 2000s, the façades of around 60 houses were renovated; most of these houses are protected under local regulations.

A Calvary with fourteen stations is located in the cemetery. They lead up the steep slope to the stone cross of Christ and the two thieves. The church, protected houses and Calvary offer different insights into the village’s architectural history and religious traditions.

On foot through Feked and the surrounding area

Organized village tours are available on request. On a short walk through the village center, a guide introduces visitors to its history, traditions, architecture, sights and everyday life. Another way to explore the village is the Feked educational trail, established in 2018. It offers insights into the customs, everyday life and festivals of the Swabians of Feked and is freely accessible at any time; no guide is needed.

The green-marked circular trail, with directional markers, starts and ends in Feked. It is 13.2 kilometers long; allow about 3.5 to 4 hours for the hike. Check the markers and trail conditions locally before setting out. Another route to follow is the blue-marked national hiking trail, which runs north of Feked along the border between Feked and Ófalu.

Hiking trails around Feked lead to several crosses. They were erected at the edge of the village, in the forest or in fields along roads and at crossroads. Some of the stories associated with them are still part of local memory. The options on foot therefore differ: a guided walk explores the village center in a short time, while the circular trail is a longer hike with an estimated walking time.

The Stifolder Festival and regional food culture

Since 2010, the Stifolder Festival, a village day, has been held in Feked every year on the first Saturday after Pentecost as part of the annual church-fair celebrations. The focus is the smoked paprika sausage known in the area. As the date is linked to Pentecost, the exact date can vary from year to year; check it before your trip.

The history of Stifolder sausage extends beyond Feked: in the wider region, its basic recipe arrived in southern Hungary with German settlers in the 18th century. Today’s village festival and the recipe’s much older history can thus be seen as two distinct aspects of food culture.

More cultural attractions in Baranya

The wider travel destination of Baranya also offers its own cultural attractions. In Pécs, the Early Christian Necropolis of Sopianae includes decorated tombs dating from the 4th century. They were built as underground burial chambers with above-ground memorial chapels and adorned with richly detailed Christian wall paintings. The Zsolnay Cultural Quarter in Pécs features the “Golden Age of Zsolnay” and “Pink Exhibition” displays, as well as an exhibition on the family and factory history. The freely accessible outdoor area can be entered and enjoyed free of charge during opening hours; check the opening hours before visiting.
