Castle, Churches and Local History

Baron Antal Puchner had a residence built in Bikal in the late 1840s. Puchner Castle was remodeled several times and a park was added. At the end of the 19th century, it acquired its definitive late historicist appearance, which remains visible today. Its present-day appearance therefore reflects both the history of the residence and its later renovations.

The two churches also represent different historical landmarks. Bikal’s Catholic church was consecrated on July 26, 1797, in honor of Saint Anne. The church of the area’s significant Protestant community was built in Bikal in 1869.
