Gyomaendrőd offers a range of themes for your stay: a protected floodplain, water activities and insights into the town’s history. When choosing a hotel in Gyomaendrőd, you can consider which of these aspects interests you most and how you would like to spend your time.

Floodplain and Activities on the Water

The Hármas-Körös floodplain covers more than 2,000 hectares and is a publicly accessible nature reserve. Along the oxbow lakes near Gyomaendrőd, willow-lined stretches of bank invite visitors to swim, fish and enjoy water sports. Conditions on site may vary. Nature experiences and activities on the water therefore offer distinct ways to spend your time: you can experience the floodplain as a protected landscape or use your stay by the oxbow lakes to enjoy water-based recreation.

Museums and Insights into Local History

At the Bárka Látogatóközpont, an interactive exhibition explores the regulation and wildlife of the Körös rivers, as well as the history of fishing. The Kner Nyomdaipari Múzeum focuses on a different subject: its industrial history collection is dedicated to printing. Together, the two museums offer different perspectives on the region—from river landscapes and fishing to one aspect of its industrial history.

The Endrődi Tájház, with its traditional rural furniture and other objects, shows how the rural population of Endrőd lived in the late 19th century. At a baking event, visitors can learn how yeast dough pastries are made in a wood-fired oven and shape pretzels, crescent rolls and lángos themselves. Packages are available for groups. Another historic building is the Szent Antal kenyerének sütőháza, a heritage building constructed in 1903.

More Highlights in the Wider Békés Destination

The wider Békés destination also has distinct nature attractions. The Körösvölgyi Animal Park is located in Szarvas, in a 26-hectare grove. There, a walking trail of about two kilometres passes bird aviaries, animal houses, wetlands and spacious enclosures. The Jégmadár Water Nature Trail offers a different perspective: it starts at the park’s jetty and follows a one-kilometre stretch of the Szarvas–Békésszentandrás oxbow lake. Eight floating buoy stations share information about the oxbow lake and its wildlife and plant life. The trail is accessible only by canoe or boat and is particularly suited to canoeists and rowboat users without an expert guide.
