Regéc offers different ways to explore the history of its castle. A marked walking trail leads from the lower part of the village toward the castle, while MondaTúra adds Kuruc legends along the way. At the visitor center, artifacts, animated films, and interactive multimedia also bring the castle to life. The local focus thus extends from an outdoor trail to various forms of exhibition.

Trail to the Castle and MondaTúra

From Regéc, a 2,400-meter walking trail marked in blue and red leads from the lower part of the village toward the castle. Its length and markings provide two specific reference points for planning your route; check current trail conditions before setting out. Along the trail to the castle, you’ll find MondaTúra stops where you can read Kuruc legends. At some stops, you can scan QR codes with your smartphone and listen to songs or other audio recordings. Since the stories do not follow a set order, you can join at any point. The first stop is just to the right as you leave Regéc, at the first castle parking lot.

Exhibitions and Visitor Center

The visitor center in Regéc presents several ways to explore the castle. One exhibition displays artifacts from the castle; animated films about different historical periods of the castle are shown in a screening room. Interactive multimedia complements both. In terms of content, visitors can distinguish between actual artifacts, a chronological perspective on the castle, and interactive media. The visitor center also has a café, a gift shop, and a small general store. If you plan to use these facilities, check the center’s current opening hours before your visit.

Church and Bell History

The Roman Catholic church in Regéc also offers a point of historical interest. Built in 1904, it has two bells. The larger bell, known as the Rákóczi Bell, was cast in 1667 by bell founder Mathias Ulrich of Eperjes, commissioned by Ferenc I Rákóczi. The dates mark two distinct historical milestones: 1904, the year the church was built, and 1667, the year the larger bell was cast.

Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén: Other Regional Highlights

The Zemplén Landscape Protection Area is part of the Zemplén Mountains; the area’s landscape influences its flora and fauna. The Tokaj wine region is legally protected as a protected wine-growing area. Its climate, soil quality, and slope exposure are suitable for growing grapes. The short Aggtelek Cave Tour is another regional highlight: it is 1 kilometer long, takes 60 minutes, and is rated easy. By comparison, the walking trail from Regéc toward the castle is 2,400 meters long and marked in blue and red. You can distinguish the cave tour from the marked castle trail by its length, duration, and difficulty rating.
