Discover Edelény
Accommodation in Edelény
Edelény brings together a Baroque castle complex on the Bódva, folk architecture, archaeological history and a path with views over the town. These themes offer different ways to explore the area: through the castle rooms and an island with walking paths, through an exhibition and a tour of the hill at Borsodi Földvár, and through the stations of the Császtai Calvary. If you are planning a stay, you can choose between architecture, historical displays and landscapes.
Baroque Castle on the Bódva
Edelényi Kastélysziget is a Baroque castle complex in a bend of the Bódva. The 12-hectare island around Edelényi Kastélysziget has walking paths and riverbanks. A walk around the island adds the surrounding landscape to the view of the castle; the river setting and paths give the complex a distinctive landscape aspect.
The guided tour of the castle lasts about an hour and a half. You will see the most beautiful rooms, learn about the castle’s history and get a glimpse of Baroque life. It begins with a 23-minute 3D film about the life and work of Lieb Ferenc, the painter from Edelény. The film and the tour that follows combine a portrait of the artist with the castle’s rooms and history. Check current visitor arrangements before your trip.
Folk Architecture and the History of Földvár
Borsodi Tájház in Edelény is an almost perfectly preserved example of folk architecture along the Bódva. The exhibition features models, archaeological reconstructions and interactive content about the history of Borsodi Földvár. Two distinct themes come together at the Tájház: the folk architecture of the house and the historical account of Földvár.
A walk around Borsodi Földvár takes you over the hill of a centre dating back around a thousand years. The landscape and reconstructions illustrate the former defensive complex and daily life at the time. The entrance to Borsodi Földvár can be reached from Borsodi Tájház; check local access conditions on site. The exhibition and the walk explore the same historical theme in different ways: here, you encounter models and interactive content; there, the hill, its landscape and the reconstructions.
A Path with Views over the Town
At the stations of the Császtai Calvary, the path climbs up the hillside, with views of the town opening up below. The ascent sets this path apart from the walking paths and riverbanks of Kastélysziget. The two places therefore offer different highlights: on the island, the castle complex and riverside landscape shape the visit; at the Calvary, it is the uphill path and views of Edelény. When planning your time in the area, you can consider this landscape-focused experience alongside the guided tour and historical walk.
