Bogács: History, Views and Wine
Accommodation in Bogács
Bogács offers several different starting points for planning a trip: historic everyday culture, religious architecture, views, wine and outdoor activities. If you are looking for a hotel, you can first decide which of these themes is of particular interest to you during your stay.
Historic Houses and Architectural History
The Tájház is housed in a 140-year-old farmhouse. Among other things, it displays objects from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, as well as Palóc folk dress. The focus is therefore on everyday objects and clothing from various historical periods.
The Hagyományőrző Ház includes a kitchen and a room furnished in the style of the early 20th century. Both rooms were added in December 2019. Visits are possible by prior arrangement; make arrangements before including a visit in your stay.
The Szent Márton-templom is another example of the area’s architectural heritage: it features 13th-century Romanesque details and was remodelled in the Gothic style in the 14th century. Its architecture thus combines Romanesque details with a later Gothic remodelling. Színészliget offers a different cultural connection: it was established in spring 2009 as a memorial site to prominent figures in Hungarian theatre.
Views and Wine
The Millennium lookout tower stands on a hill above Bogács and offers views of the town and the Bükkalja. This brings together different trip-planning themes: architectural history with clearly identified periods, and views encompassing Bogács and the Bükkalja. If you prefer landscapes and views of the town to indoor spaces and cultural history, these differences can help determine the focus of your stay.
At the Cserépi úti pincesor, visitors can taste and buy wine. Alongside the historic buildings and the lookout tower, this provides a specific wine-related activity during your time in Bogács.
Cycling and Nearby Destinations
The Miskolc–Bogács tourist cycle route was completed in 2023 and passes through the natural landscapes of Bogács, Tard and Tibolddaróc. This is a regional cycling route that connects three named places, while the Millennium lookout tower is a single viewpoint above Bogács. This distinction can help with your planning: the route offers a broader landscape experience, while the tower provides a specific viewpoint.
The Ördögtorony educational trail in Cserépfalu is a nearby destination: it starts and ends in the town centre. The starting point is 4.8 km from the centre of Bogács. This makes the trail an easy separate destination to include in your plans.
The tourist information office in Bogács lends children’s, women’s and men’s bicycles during its opening hours. Check current opening hours and availability before your visit if you plan to borrow a bicycle.
Fishing and Relaxing by the Lake
The Horgásztó, covering around 20 hectares, offers opportunities for fishing and relaxation. There are rain shelters and benches with mountain views along the shore; night fishing is also possible. Check the applicable fishing regulations before setting out to fish. If you are looking for fishing opportunities, this offers a different focus from visiting the historic rooms or going wine tasting.
