Székkutas can be explored through a range of travel interests: its windmill, places of remembrance connected with local history, and a lake landscape in the surrounding area. If you are looking for a hotel for a trip to Székkutas, you can first decide whether to focus on architectural and community history or on the landscape. The windmill and the Székkutasi Emlékház represent local themes; Lake Kakasszéki-tó lies a few kilometres away.

The Székkutas Windmill

The Székkutas windmill is built of unplastered red bricks and is a three-passage (three-stone) Dutch windmill. Two aspects of its technology should be distinguished: its three-stone construction and the former alignment of its sails using the roof structure. Thanks to this construction, the sails could once be aligned with the wind; they no longer survive. Over time, the mill fell into disrepair. It therefore offers a way to distinguish between its materials, mill type and a historical technical feature.

Local History and Places of Remembrance

The Székkutasi Emlékház opened on 5 October 2013 and offers insight into the history of the municipality of Székkutas and its administrative boundaries. A visit requires an appointment in advance. A visit to the Kovács István Emlékház also requires an appointment in advance.

Another memorial is the wooden Rostás Cross in Székkutas’s District I. Péter Rostás erected it with his sibling to commemorate their mother’s recovery. This family occasion makes the cross a personal memorial. In comparison with the Emlékház, the focus here is on different perspectives on remembrance: the former concerns the municipality and its administrative boundaries, while the cross commemorates their mother’s recovery.

Lake Kakasszéki-tó in the Surrounding Area

Lake Kakasszéki-tó lies a few kilometres from Székkutas and is continuously fed by the Kakasszék-ér stream. Lakes I, II and III are part of the landscape of the Kakasszéki lake district; their reed-lined shores provide habitats for many aquatic and shoreline species in peaceful surroundings. These features describe both the water supply and the habitats in the surrounding area. The lake is therefore a scenic focal point outside the local area of Székkutas.

The Wider Csongrád Region

In the wider travel destination of Csongrád, the Tisza and its oxbow lakes, the Maros and Körös rivers, as well as numerous lakes and canals, shape the landscape of Csongrád-Csanád. The region is also rich in thermal and medicinal waters. Nature reserves protect distinctive plant and animal species around salt lakes and in sandy forests and puszta areas. More than 200 listed buildings are also recorded in Csongrád-Csanád. These features describe the wider regional setting. Szeged, too, combines the architectural openness of a Great Hungarian Plain city with a modern metropolitan structure, alongside a varied theatre and music scene.
