Felcsút: Art, Local History and Architecture
Accommodation in Felcsút
Discover Felcsút through its art, local history, architecture and football heritage. The Kokas Ignác Felcsúti Képtár focuses on the painter’s work, the Felcsúti Tájház is devoted to local history research, and the organised Puskás Akadémia-körút presents architecture and memorabilia.
Kokas Ignác’s Art and Felcsút’s Local History
The Kokas Ignác Felcsúti Képtár is a dedicated memorial house for the works of Kossuth Prize-winning painter Kokas Ignác. It is located in a farmhouse, where a selection of outstanding pieces from his estate is on public display. Visits can be arranged by appointment. At the entrance, visitors are greeted by Kokas Ignác’s easel and a painting. A self-portrait from 1967 still shows a figurative style; later, the painter shifted to non-figurative expression. The large-scale paintings create dreamlike visions through distinctive effects of colour and form. Together, these details offer two ways of looking at his work: the evolution of his artistic language and the impact of colour and form.
The Felcsúti Tájház, by contrast, focuses on the findings of local history research. The residents of Felcsút contributed much of the material used to furnish the house. The exhibition is intended for interested residents and visitors and presents research findings on the history of the village. The focus here is therefore on local heritage, while the Kokas Ignác memorial house is devoted to his art. One historical reference dates back to 1626: the earliest surviving record of Felcsút’s Reformed congregation names Nagyhalászi Pápa Gergely as the village’s first pastor.
Architecture and Football History on the Puskás Akadémia-körút
The organised tour of the Puskás Academy complex is officially called the Puskás Akadémia-körút. The tour introduces the key features of Imre Makovecz’s organic architectural style. It also includes a visit to the memorabilia in the stadium display cases and a look back at the life of Ferenc Puskás. Visitors can also enter the football centre’s 200-year-old chapel during the tour. Architecture, football memorabilia and the chapel thus offer different points of focus for the visit. Advance registration is required. Check the operator’s current booking information before your visit.
Monuments and Railway History
A small Turul bird adorns the Felcsút war memorial. It was made by István Maráczi, a metal caster from Felcsút. This detail connects the monument to an artist from the village.
Felcsút railway station is another local landmark: it is a stop on the Vál-völgyi Kisvasút narrow-gauge railway and serves passengers there. If you are planning a journey, check the operator’s current information. The station building itself also has a railway story: it was once a station on the Székesfehérvár–Bicske line, which was closed in 1980. A narrow-gauge railway stop and a building associated with a former railway line thus stand side by side here.
Regional Context: Székesfehérvár
Nature is another possible interest in the wider Székesfehérvár destination area. Several hiking trails lead from Pákozd to the Pákozdi Ingókövek rock formations, and the trails can also be cycled. A geological educational trail, established in 1994, connects the formations. Reed beds on Lake Velence provide a habitat for thousands of waterbirds. These regional landmarks complement Felcsút’s cultural themes with rock landscapes, geology and birdlife.
