Fertőhomok lies on the southern shore of Lake Fertő and within Fertő-Hanság National Park. The village brings together several themes to help you decide where to travel: local culture and architectural history, a brewery tour, a nature trail and a cycling tour. This will help you decide whether cultural sites or routes better match your travel interests.

Nature Trail and Cycling Tour

The Békakonty nature trail is reached via a gently sloping gravel path behind the Fertőhomok municipal office; after about 300 metres, it is on the left. After reading the information boards, the path continues to the Homoki-csatorna. The “Fertő tótól az Alpokaljáig” cycling tour passes through Fertőhomok. The routes differ in their focus: on the nature trail, the access route and continuation to the canal are key, while the cycling tour includes the village as part of its route.

Brewery and Village Life

Szentkői sörház is in the centre of Fertőhomok and offers brewery tours. Visitors learn about the brewing process and the products. The tour is a distinct attraction alongside the walking routes and cultural sites. If you would like to plan a visit, check the date before your trip.

The singing and dance choir and the tambura orchestra of the Fertőhomoki Kulturális Egyesület preserve local traditions and play an important role in shaping the community. In this way, music and dance contribute to the village’s cultural life differently from its architectural and exhibition venues.

Tájház and Architectural History

The first room and kitchen of the Fertőhomoki tájház feature a domestic interior from the 1930s. The former stable serves as an exhibition space, where three to four contemporary artists can show their work each year. This brings together the historic furnishings and the opportunity to see contemporary art exhibitions. The Fertőhomoki tájház was largely rebuilt in 1930 after the former thatched-roof building burned down. The rebuilding and the furnishings from the 1930s highlight two different aspects of the house: its architectural history and its interior design.

Behind the barn of the Fertőhomoki tájház, an open-air stage with an audience area hosts concerts, theatre performances and dance shows. The Roman Catholic Szent Anna-templom stands on a hill above the village, reached by a staircase. If you would like to plan a brewery tour or performance, check the relevant date before your trip.
