If you are looking for a hotel in Hajdúnánás, three distinct interests can help guide you: the Gyógyfürdő, the history of straw weaving and a cycling route between Hajdúnánás and Hajdúdorog. You can plan your stay around whether you want to focus primarily on the baths, local cultural history or cycling. The wider Hajdú-Bihar destination also offers regional landscapes and cultural attractions.

Thermal baths and parkland

The Hajdúnánási Gyógyfürdő, also known as Városi Fürdő, opened on 15 July 1962. It is supplied by medicinal water at a temperature of 67 °C, which rises from a depth of 1,019 metres. The opening date tells the story of the baths, while the temperature and depth indicate the source of its water.

The site covers 14 hectares and is set in a quiet location, with plenty of shade and park-like greenery. If the Gyógyfürdő is the reason for your trip, this landscape setting is just as relevant as the origin of the medicinal water. This means that the baths, the water and the green grounds are all part of this focus.

Straw weaving and historic architecture

The Helytörténeti Gyűjtemény, or Local History Collection, is located in the town centre and is free to visit. It showcases Hajdúnánás’s role in the 19th century as a Central European centre of straw weaving, with products reaching Paris and overseas markets. This offers a concrete insight into local craft history and its far-reaching markets.

Another site of cultural and historical interest is the Hajdúnánási Tájház (Hajdú Ház és Kovácsműhely). It is housed in a building constructed in the late 18th century in a vernacular classicist style. Visits are possible by prior arrangement. Contact them in advance and confirm that a visit is possible before your trip. The collection in the town centre and the Tájház offer different points of interest: the former focuses on the history of straw weaving, while the latter is a historic building with its own architectural character.

Cycling route between Hajdúnánás and Hajdúdorog

The cycling route between Hajdúnánás and Hajdúdorog is well suited to cycling. Much of the cycle path is lined with trees, providing pleasant shade. This gives you two specific points to consider when planning: the route runs between the two named towns, and trees provide shade along much of it. Check the infrastructure before setting out.

The wider Hajdú-Bihar destination

Within the wider Hajdú-Bihar destination, the Hortobágyi Nemzeti Park – the Puszta World Heritage site offers a different kind of landscape. It covers nearly 75,000 hectares in the Great Hungarian Plain in eastern Hungary. As a cultural landscape, the Puszta preserves visible evidence of more than 2,000 years of traditional pastoralism. This regional perspective complements the local themes of baths, crafts and architectural history with an expansive cultural landscape.

The Hortobágyi-halastó pond system is also part of the wider Hajdú-Bihar destination. It is a Ramsar site, an Important Bird Area, part of the World Heritage site and a Natura 2000 site. The nature trail there offers walks of 3.6, 5.4 or 10 kilometres, with no difficult sections. The three options differ in length, so you can choose according to the distance you want to cover.
