If you’re looking for a hotel in Ebes, you can start by considering what you want your stay to focus on: architectural history, art in a church interior, remembrance or time outdoors. In Ebes, these interests can be explored at specific places.

Local history and cultural traces

The Görbe-Balogh manor house was built in 1922 in the neoclassical style. Today, it houses a senior citizens’ club. The construction period and current use together offer insight into the building’s history and present-day function. The Reformed Church offers a different perspective: the painted panels on its gallery depict biblical scenes and Reformed symbols; they were created by the painter Buka László.

In Szent-István Park, the local community erected a wooden cross on 18 August 2011, following a citizen initiative. It commemorates the destruction of the medieval village in 1594. The two dates distinguish the historical event from the later erection of the memorial. The railway station building, still visible today, also speaks of another era: it was built in 1920 and is a protected monument. Together, the manor house, church gallery, cross and railway station offer different ways to explore architectural, artistic and commemorative history.

Parks and play facilities in Ebes

Nagy Park has play equipment, a large lawn and a fire pit for visitors. The park thus offers several features side by side: space to play, an open lawn and a fire pit. Hajdú-Bihar: Puszta, nature and places to visit

In the wider travel destination of Hajdú-Bihar, the Puszta is a distinctive landscape highlight. The Hortobágyi National Park – the Puszta World Heritage Site covers nearly 75,000 hectares of the Great Hungarian Plain in eastern Hungary. As a cultural landscape, it preserves visible traces of more than 2,000 years of traditional pastoralism. While the manor house, church gallery and memorial cross convey the local history of Ebes, this regional perspective places the landscape and its pastoral tradition at the forefront.

The distances make it easy to choose a route: 3.6 kilometres is the shortest option, 10 kilometres the longest, and 5.4 kilometres falls in between.

The Hortobágyi Wildlife Park offers another perspective on the Puszta. It showcases its native wildlife, including wolves, Przewalski’s horses, vultures and pelicans. There is also a bookable Land Rover safari, with an expert guide, to see wild horses and aurochs. As booking conditions may change, it is advisable to check them before planning your visit.
