Kaba: Spa, Meteorites and Places of Remembrance
Accommodation in Kaba
A stay in Kaba can include both the Municipal Spa and the history of the meteorite and local remembrance sites. These are different reasons for planning your day: at the spa, you can take the pools and water temperatures into account and check the seasonal opening hours before your visit; at the memorial sites, the events and people commemorated there take center stage. When searching for a hotel, you can first decide whether a spa stay, local history, or both should shape your stay.
Getting There and Getting Around
The Budapest–Záhony railway line runs through the built-up area of Kaba; the train station is located at the northern edge of the town. For orientation, these are two different pieces of information: the line runs through the built-up area, and the station is at its northern edge. Check the timetable for the Budapest–Záhony connection for your travel dates. This allows you to take the train connection and the station's location into account when planning your journey.
The Municipal Spa of Kaba
The Municipal Spa of Kaba operates four pools: a swimming pool, a children's pool, and two thermal pools with different water temperatures. Pool type and temperature are therefore two features you can use to distinguish the bathing area. The spa's facilities also include a rock waterfall, neck showers, massage jets for the waist, and bubbling loungers. These pools and additional features give you various aspects to consider when thinking about how much time you would like to spend bathing in Kaba.
The 47 °C warm thermal water from Kaba is alkaline hydrogen carbonate medicinal water. Before visiting, check the seasonal opening hours of the spa and the current pool configuration. This way, you can tailor your stay to the bathing times and pools that are important to you.
Meteorite Fall and Places of Remembrance
The Kaba meteorite was the first meteorite in which organic material was detected. A commemorative stone in the park in front of the Mácsai-Sándor Cultural Center recalls the meteorite fall of April 15, 1857. The two aspects set different emphases: the detection of organic material concerns the scientific significance of the meteorite, while the commemorative stone recalls the date of the fall.
At the Reformed Church in Kaba, two monuments commemorate different historical themes. In the garden stands a statue created in 1921 by Gách István, commemorating 284 fallen soldiers of the First World War. At the church there is also a monument created in 2007 by L. Lakatos Aranka for the 50th anniversary of the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. One work is dedicated to the fallen soldiers of the First World War, the other to the anniversary of the revolution.
The statue of Saint Stephen, created by Győrfi Lajos, was unveiled on August 20, 2000, in the square in front of the parish house. Its location distinguishes it from the monuments by the Reformed Church. The names of 233 victims of the Second World War from Kaba are also listed on seven oak posts. Thus, in Kaba, remembrances of different events and groups stand side by side.
A Székely gate created by Papp Jenő adds a story of exchange to these references: Kaba received the gate from Nyikómalomfalva in exchange for an aid shipment to a place affected by the major flood of 2005. The gate's origin and exchange give it a different focus from the monuments commemorating specific historical events.
