Egerszólát lies in the valley of the Szólát stream. Vineyards, historic buildings and a cycling loop through the village offer different ways to choose your destination.

Winemaking and Events

Numerous grape varieties grow across nearly 400 hectares on the slopes of the Szóláti-hegyek. Egerszóláti Olaszrizling remains a hallmark of the community to this day. These two details show winemaking both as a feature of the landscape and through a specific wine associated with the village. If wine-making traditions matter to your travel plans, you can get a sense of Egerszólát through its vineyards and the local importance of Olaszrizling.

The Aranytőke Borszemle is held every two years as an international wine competition of international standing. On average, wine-growing regions from five countries take part. If you would like to plan your stay around this event, check the dates in advance. The Gál Lajos winery has a tasting room for 30 to 40 people. This capacity is a specific planning consideration for groups; if you would like to include a tasting in your trip, check in advance whether visits are possible.

Historic Buildings

At the end of the “Pincesor,” which branches off Egri út, stands the Andreánszky–kúria, built in the early 19th century. Csenus Sándor had the Brezovay-Kastély built in 1773. An original Baroque door and two rooms with distinctive barrel vaults have been preserved there. A barrel vault is a lengthwise, arched ceiling; the term describes the shape of this architectural feature. The two buildings offer different points of interest for architectural history: the construction period of the kúria and the surviving features of the Kastély.

The Neoclassical Szórát-féle kúria stands on the main road; its year of construction is unknown. The Roman Catholic Nepomuki Szent János Church still stands today. Its construction began in 1734, commissioned by István Farkas’s widow. The historical details are not all of the same kind: the construction year is known for the Brezovay-Kastély, the start of construction for the church, and a period for the Andreánszky–kúria. The style of the Szórát-féle kúria is known, but its construction year is not. The buildings can therefore be distinguished by their dating, architecture and construction history.
