Discover Sirok
Accommodation in Sirok
A stay in Sirok offers several different themes to explore: the castle and its historical exhibition, rock formations with scenic views, local culture and a protected marshland. Each destination has a different focus. When planning your trip, you can weigh up whether you are more interested in history, landscape or local design.
Castle and Rock Formations
The permanent exhibition at Sirok Castle focuses on the daily lives of the Ottoman soldiers who lived there between 1596 and 1686. These dates give the exhibition a clear historical framework. If the castle is a key interest for you, you can make the exhibition a focus of your visit; check the latest operating details before you go.
A comfortable, gently rising walking path leads to the Barát and Apáca Rocks, a rock group near Sirok Castle. This makes the walk a nature-focused attraction in its own right, alongside the historical exhibition. Törökasztal offers a different landscape experience: this flat-topped rock formation is near the castle. From there, the view stretches across the castle and Sirok to the hills of the Bükk and Mátra ranges, as well as the Tarna Valley. If you want to distinguish between a walk to rock formations and a viewpoint, you can consider these features as two different highlights when planning your trip.
Local Culture and Landscape
The cultural sites also offer different points of interest. The exhibition area of the Sirok Tourist Information Centre features a permanent exhibition of works by sculptor Pál Borics. The Sirok Tájház is distinguished by a veranda with dwarf columns and bud-shaped capitals. The rear room contains a Palóc room with furniture decorated with Palóc motifs. The cultural focus therefore ranges from the works of a sculptor to the architectural and decorative details of the Tájház.
The Siroki NyĂrjes-tĂł Nature Reserve includes a peat bog on the northeastern side of DarnĂł Hill. Alongside the rock formations and wide-ranging views, this offers a different type of landscape: a bog within a nature reserve. The dinosaur models at DĂnĂł Park Sirok move and make sounds. If you plan to visit the park, check the latest operating details in advance.
