Mezőtúr brings together pottery craftsmanship and Reformed heritage with nature and leisure opportunities along the Hortobágy-Berettyó. In the wider travel destination of Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok, the Tisza-tó in the northern part serves as a tourist hub.

Pottery and Reformed Heritage

Pottery was already being made in Mezőtúr in the 16th century. The permanent exhibition Centuries of Pottery in Mezőtúr traces 250 years of Túri pottery: it features local ceramic works from the late 18th century to selected pieces from the 21st century. The exhibition thus places older works alongside later examples of local ceramic craftsmanship.

The Mezőtúri Református Látogatóközpont comprises the Belvárosi Nagytemplom, the Ókönyvtár, the Díszterem and the Városi Galéria. The centre offers tower visits and guided tours by appointment. If you are planning a visit, please note that guided tours must be arranged in advance. The different parts give the visit a cultural and religious focus, while the ceramics exhibition centres on local craftsmanship.

Events and Visitor Information

The revived Túri vásár takes place every year in August at Erzsébet liget. The festival showcases folk art, crafts, folk dance and folk music. As this is an event with specific dates, check the current event dates before travelling.

The Mezőtúri Turisztikai Információs Iroda offers free publications, event brochures and thematic maps. If you are considering visiting Mezőtúr during a particular period, you can take event dates and the purpose of your trip into account together.

Hortobágy-Berettyó and Outdoor Activities

The Hortobágy-Berettyó is a remarkable natural asset of Mezőtúr. Other natural features around the city include the river floodplain and extensive grassland habitats on the landward side of the flood protection embankments. The stretch of river near Mezőtúr is suitable for canoeing, and cycling is possible on the embankments. The area is associated with angling tourism and a rich fish fauna, while the surrounding grasslands are destinations for horse-riding routes.

The activities differ in how they relate to the landscape: canoeing takes place on the river, cycling on the embankments, and horse-riding routes lead through the grasslands. Fishing adds another option with its own connection to the fish fauna. This makes it easier to decide before your trip which of the listed leisure activities best suits your interests.
