Tiszaszőlős appeals to travelers looking to combine a stay connected to the Tisza with nature at Cserőközi-holtág and the story of a specific discovery. The town is described as an anglers’ paradise; the seasonally accessible oxbow lake and the discovery of a Copper Age find in 1839 offer contrasting highlights.

Nature and the Tisza

Proximity to the Tisza is one of Tiszaszőlős’s main attractions; the town is described as an anglers’ paradise. Cserőközi-holtág is a special natural site. It can be visited from the beginning of spring until winter sets in. Check the current visiting conditions before your visit and plan within this seasonal period.

Cserőközi-holtág is the only oxbow lake in the middle Tisza region that has been preserved in a condition close to its original state. Its former bed is covered by a white poplar forest. Watermeal grows in the water and is described as the world’s smallest flowering plant among the angiosperms.

A Copper Age discovery

The Copper Age find known as the Tiszaszőlős Treasure was discovered in 1839, after a bank embankment collapsed near Nagyaszó and flooding followed. The year, place, and circumstances are all part of the story of this discovery. It provides a clearly dated historical highlight alongside the oxbow lake’s seasonal nature theme.
