If you are planning a stay in Súr, you can choose where to stay based on walking trails and cultural sites. Nine circular walking trails are recommended; each starts in the town centre and returns there. There are also two churches with distinct features, a work of art in the park by the central square, and a fishing lake. Specific route lengths are given for three tours, making them easy to compare directly.

Walking Trails by Length and Stops

The 3.8-kilometre Lombkorona-sétány tour starts in the town centre and passes Köztársasági elnök fája, Életfa, Harangjáték, Deák utcai feszület, Pipitér, Kastélykert, Urasági szőlőhegy, Panoráma-sétány, Lombkorona-sétány and Rovarszálloda before returning to the town centre. The route includes many named stops. Lombkorona-sétány is also one of the sights in Súr.

The 4.9-kilometre Görbe-dűlő tour is a circular route from the town centre, passing Bányász csille and Napóra before returning to the centre. The longer Szentkút tour is 7.4 kilometres long. Among other places, it leads to Szentkúti kápolna, II. János Pál pápa által megáldott feszület and Szentkúti forrás before returning to the town centre. Of these three tours, the Görbe-dűlő tour is intermediate in length between the Lombkorona-sétány and Szentkút tours. This gives you a clear point of reference if route length is a factor in your choice.

Churches and Local History

The Catholic church in Súr is Baroque and dates from 1785. The Evangelical Lutheran church has a carillon with twelve bells that plays throughout the day. In the park by the central square stands the “Tree of Life”, an artistic depiction of the town’s history. Together, these three features offer different points of interest: a historic construction date, a carillon and an artistic depiction of local history.

Fishing Lake and Mountain Carts

Súr’s fishing lake can be reached from the town centre on foot, by bicycle or by car. This makes it easy to include the destination in your plans using different modes of transport. For mountain carting, a special strap secures the cart to your body, leaving your hands free. The ascent takes you up a hill, followed by a descent.

A Regional Perspective on Komorn-Gran

The wider destination of Komorn-Gran offers a distinct landscape and natural setting at Gerecsei Tájvédelmi Körzet. This nationally significant protected landscape area in Komárom-Esztergom has an individual designation and covers 8,676 hectares. Triassic limestone predominates in the Gerecse; Jurassic limestone is also found here and is particularly rich in fossils.

Another regional cultural attraction is Majki Kamalduli Remeteség, a Baroque complex of monuments with seventeen hermit houses, a church tower and a monastery. An exhibition there covers the general and Hungarian history of the Camaldolese order. These wider regional themes can enrich your understanding of the destination, while the walking trails, churches, Tree of Life and fishing lake provide specific points of interest in Súr.
