If you’re looking for a hotel in Dunakeszi, it’s worth deciding in advance what you’d like to focus on during your stay: water and cycling, outdoor activities, nature or history. The options also differ in terms of planning: beach services are seasonal, the leisure park is free to use all year round, and the exhibition in the riverside fort has no fixed opening hours.

Water and Cycling

At Dunakeszi Duna Free Beach, you can rent a SUP, a four-person canoe, a single kayak or a double kayak. Beach services are seasonal, and the availability of individual watercraft may also vary by season. If you have a particular option in mind, check in advance what is available for the season.

EuroVelo 6 runs immediately east of the beach. Near Vác, it connects to the cycling route towards the Danube Bend. These are two specific landmarks along the route to help you plan your ride; check the current route before setting off. If you’re taking the train to the beach, the municipality recommends Dunakeszi-Gyártelep station. Check current train services before you leave.

The three-day Borsétány takes place every year in early June at Dunakeszi Duna Free Beach. The programme includes wine tastings, outdoor film screenings and concerts. If you’d like to combine your trip with the festival, check the dates and programme for that year in advance.

Sports, Play and Nature

Katonadomb Leisure Park is free for everyone to use all year round. Its facilities include basketball and teqball courts, table tennis tables, a playground and a fitness park designed for adults. It offers a variety of opportunities for exercise and play, without having to plan your stay around seasonal beach services.

Another playground is located halfway along the beach promenade. It is completely shaded by trees. This makes it easy to distinguish between the two locations: the playground at Katonadomb Leisure Park and the shaded playground on the beach promenade.

Nature is the focus of the Madárlátta Nature Trail. The trail was partially renovated in 2022, when it was also given its name. Interactive displays along the route introduce the area’s wildlife and plant life. This is a different focus from the sports facilities at Katonadomb: here, it’s all about local flora and fauna.

Historic Sites

The ruins of the church in the medieval village of Alag are in Alagimajor, a part of Dunakeszi. The foundations and some of the sanctuary’s side walls remain. Dunakeszi Riverside Fort points to a different era: it was built in the 370s during the reign of Emperor Valentinian and formed a pair with the fort on the Horány side. Together, the two sites reflect different historical connections in Dunakeszi.

The late Roman riverside fort houses an exhibition with no fixed opening hours. You can arrange a visit by phone. This may be helpful when planning your trip if you’re interested in Roman history; arrange your visit in advance.
