Kisoroszi: The Danube, Village History and Golf
Accommodation in Kisoroszi
Kisoroszi between the Danube, Nature and Culture
Kisoroszi lies at the northern tip of Szentendre Island, where the Danube splits. The village combines a distinctive river landscape with village history and a variety of activities: at SzigetcsĂşcs, the focus is on views and protected nature; the local history collection and studio offer insights into history and art, while the golf course and fairytale trail add other highlights. This mix provides a practical starting point when choosing a hotel: consider whether you are choosing Kisoroszi primarily for its landscape, cultural sites or a particular activity. This will help you match the character of the village to your own travel plans.
SzigetcsĂşcs: Views and Protected Nature
From Kisoroszi Szigetcsúcs, you can see across the Danube to the Visegrád Mountains and the Börzsöny range on the opposite bank. The tip lies within Duna-Ipoly National Park; its flora and fauna are protected under Natura 2000. Szigetcsúcs is also a nature reserve of national importance. The area is a riverside forest of willows and poplars. The aging trees pose a risk, as they may fall, and dry branches may come down. Szigetcsúcs is also a campsite by the water, where you can pitch tents beneath shady willows and poplars.
Village History, Studio and Churches
The Kisoroszi Local History Collection presents the village’s past, folk culture and everyday life through objects dating from the 19th century to the mid-20th century. The Ujváry-Ignác Studio offers a different perspective on local history: Ujváry Ignác had it built specifically for his artistic work in 1898 on the banks of the Danube, and the room has retained its original condition. Its preserved appearance includes large windows, an easel, furniture and paintings on the walls. The collection and studio offer different perspectives: the collection depicts everyday village life, while the studio preserves a space associated with Ujváry Ignác’s artistic work.
The churches also offer tangible historical points of reference. Kisoroszi’s Reformed Church was built in 1803 in the Neo-Baroque style. The Roman Catholic church is a Late Baroque building; it was consecrated in October 1719 and dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary.
Golf Course and Fairytale Trail
The Dunakanyargó Fairytale Trail is an outdoor experience trail with eight stations. At the little fairytale houses, visitors can read stories about the Danube, water or the place itself. Each house features a game, activity or question to spark conversation, matching the story and exploring it further. The golf course offers a different focus: the Magyar Golf Club Kisoroszi’s 18-hole course has a par of 72 and is Hungary’s oldest 18-hole course. The club’s historic Hungarian Old Course features natural dunes and rolling fairways reminiscent of famous English links courses.
