Szokolya combines a railway route through the village with attractions in Királyrét and a memorial room in the village. This makes it possible to plan your trip around specific interests: the Királyrét Forest Railway connects Kismaros and Királyrét, the Királyrét Nature Trail brings together natural and technological history, and the memorial room commemorates two painters.

Travel by the Királyrét Forest Railway

The Királyrét Forest Railway runs on a timetable between Királyrét and Kismaros, passing through Szokolya. Its route follows the Morgó stream valley, running from the Danube bank through the village to Királyrét. This makes it possible to explore Szokolya along a railway route that connects two distinct destinations beyond the village itself. Check the operator’s current timetable for your travel dates.

From Kismaros, you can reach Szokolya by narrow-gauge railway or bus. Királyrét is also accessible from Kismaros by bus or small train. These details refer to different destinations: plan your journey according to whether you want to visit Szokolya itself or Királyrét and its nature trail. Check current connections before setting off.

Nature trail in Királyrét: nature and history

The Királyrét Nature Trail is 2.9 kilometres long, has nine stations and is freely accessible. It starts at Hiúz Ház, the forest school and visitor centre in Királyrét. This provides a clear starting point for anyone wishing to include the nature trail in their day’s plans.

Along the way, visitors can learn about the wildlife and plant life of the forests and lakes, as well as the history of narrow-gauge railways and iron ore mining. Signposts and markings painted on tree trunks make it easier to find your way. The topics bring together nature and local technological and mining history, rather than focusing on just one theme. Those interested in both will find a route that covers them together; the nine stations divide the nature trail along its length.

Memorial room for two painters

A memorial room for painters Mányoki Ádám and Viski János is located at 83 Fő utca. Visits are possible by prior telephone arrangement. Unlike the freely accessible nature trail, a visit here requires an advance arrangement: book your visit by phone before adding the memorial room to your plans. This allows you to take the different visiting arrangements for the two destinations into account when planning your trip.

The Királyrét Hajtánypálya

The Királyrét Hajtánypálya began operating in 2007. Its separate track is about 750 metres long; a lap on the four-seat rail bikes takes four to five minutes. This circuit ride differs from the 2.9-kilometre nature trail route: the Hajtánypálya focuses on a short lap and a ride on a rail bike, while the nature trail features nine stations and its nature and history themes. Before visiting, check whether the Hajtánypálya is currently operating.
