If you are looking for a hotel in Iharos, these themes can help you plan your travel dates and shape your stay. Local stories range from archaeological evidence to an annual event; the wider Lake Balaton – South destination adds regional natural and landscape connections.
The church and local remembrance
In December 1975, the former school building in Iharos was converted into a Lutheran church under the direction of Pastor János Hegyháti. The change from educational to religious use provides a clearly dated reference point in the town’s history. The church was renovated for its 50th anniversary; a report published in 2026 describes the renovation as complete.
On 5 July 2009, a life-size statue of Saint Ladislaus was erected in the church garden during the tenth Iharos Saint Ladislaus Days. It was erected as the town’s first public monument and commemorates Blatt Vince, who died young and tragically. The date, event and dedication link a religious motif with a specific chapter in local memory. The statue thus provides a separate historical reference point alongside the conversion of the school building into a church.
Older traces and the park
Medieval Iharos was located in the field below the present-day cemetery; the large quantity of pottery shards found there supports this identification. The findspot anchors the archaeological interpretation to a specific location. Compared with the dated information about the church and statue, it points to a much earlier period in the town’s history.
The park of the former Inkey Castle lies on both sides of the road that runs through Iharos. While the field below the cemetery connects the area with the medieval settlement, the road through the town is the spatial point of reference for the park. This places archaeological and landscape points of reference side by side in the town’s history.
