Ádánd: Church Ruin, Church and Manor House
Accommodation in Ádánd
Ádánd stretches along both banks of the Kis-Koppány and combines its riverside setting with several historic buildings. When planning a stay, you can group the sights by their different periods and themes: the Hetyei Church Ruin represents medieval architecture, the Szentháromság Church and its statue represent religious history, and the manor house and castle add to the village’s history.
Romanesque church ruin with surviving tower
At the Hetyei templomrom, a tower 11 metres high with a square ground plan survives. The Romanesque church was probably built in the first half of the 13th century, so this date is approximate. Visitors can ring a handbell attached to the wall at the ruin site as they wish. This adds a hands-on activity to viewing the surviving tower. After two years of preparatory, permitting and construction work, the ruin was once again safe to visit and open to the public from 20 November 2025. Check access before your trip.
Church, statue and manor house
The Roman Catholic Szentháromság Church is protected as a listed monument of national importance. In its garden stands a Neoclassical statue of the Immaculata dating from 1816. Here, you can encounter two different forms of religious history: a protected church building and a dated individual work of art. The 1816 statue can be compared chronologically with the church ruin, which was probably built in the 13th century.
The Tallián Manor House was built in the mid-18th century and is the oldest residential building in Ádánd. Compared with the church ruin, probably built in the 13th century, it represents a much later phase of construction. The Csapody Castle has stood empty since the school moved to Tab in 2007. If you plan to include the castle in your itinerary, check access in advance.
Plan for the train timetable, Mass and geocache
A railway line from Siófok to Kaposvár via Ádánd and Tab connects the village. Check the timetable before travelling, as services may change. Catholic Mass is held in Ádánd on Sundays at 11 a.m.; confirm the time before you arrive, as Mass times may change. The access route from the starting point to the “Ádándi löszfal és versenypálya” geocache is 400 metres. This distance refers to the route from the starting point and gives you a specific measure for planning.
Regional setting: Balaton – South
In the broader destination of Balaton – South, the region’s natural environment is also in focus alongside Ádánd’s village character. The Zselici Tájvédelmi Körzet received the title of International Dark Sky Park in 2009 because of its low light pollution; the Zselici Csillagpark was built in the heart of the protected area. Other parts of Somogy County’s regional context include Kis-Balaton, the Barcsi Ősborókás and Babócsai Basakert. These natural attractions provide a distinct contrast to Ádánd’s buildings.
