Churches and architectural history
The Roman Catholic Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross (Szent Kereszt felmagasztalása) in Hőgyész is a protected monument. The present-day Szent Kereszt Church was completed by 1799 with donations from Count Antal Apponyi and the local community. Its protected status, completion date and named donors each offer a different perspective on the church’s history.
The Csicsói Pilgrimage Church and Holy Well (Csicsói Kegytemplom és Szentkút) is a pilgrimage site belonging to the Hőgyész parish. Landowner Anton Mercy d’Argenteau had it built in 1745 in honour of the Holy Trinity and the Blessed Virgin Mary, Help of Christians. Check the current access regulations before visiting. Csicsó Chapel serves as the burial place of its builder, Anton Mercy.
Tájház and German collection
The Hőgyészi Német Nemzetiségi Gyűjtemény Tájháza consists of four rooms: three exhibition rooms and a pantry containing agricultural equipment, as well as some tools and utensils used in crafts. The collection displays original objects and furniture that were once in use. It also features mannequins wearing historic German costumes from Hőgyész, Kalaznó, Dúzs, Diósberény and Murga. The collection thus showcases both work and everyday items, as well as clothing from the five named places. Visits are possible by prior registration and appointment.
