In Alsóörs, different travel interests come together: late Gothic architectural history, a red-stone amphitheatre, views of Lake Balaton and sailing-related activities. To plan your trip, you can first decide whether cultural sites, panoramic views, water sports or Községi Beach should shape your stay.

Architecture in Alsóörs

The Török-Ház in Alsóörs is a late Gothic manor house of the lesser nobility, unique in Hungary. Based on its architectural features, it was built around the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries. It stands on a steep slope and overlooks the eastern basin of Lake Balaton.

The Reformed Church also tells a story of a long architectural history: it preserves the walls of a church dedicated to the Virgin Mary, first mentioned in 1318. On its south wall, alongside Romanesque slit windows, there is a large figurative mural. Beneath the galleries, the church has a painted wooden ceiling decorated with floral motifs. Its historical points of reference therefore range from the preserved church walls to specific details on the walls and ceiling.

AMFI: Amphitheatre and forest treasure hunt

AMFI Alsóörs has a semicircular red-stone amphitheatre with seating for 450. It is used for concerts and film screenings. The venue was created on the site of a former quarry. AMFI thus combines an event venue with clearly identifiable features of its history and design.

The activities also include an interactive forest treasure hunt for teams of two to eight people. AMFI therefore offers different kinds of activities: concerts and film screenings in the amphitheatre, as well as an activity with a group size established from the outset.

Views and hiking

The Somlyó-hegyi kilátó is accessible on foot, by bicycle and by car. From its top level, you can see the eastern basin of Lake Balaton, the northern shore and the Bakony Hills. The Török-Ház also offers a view of the eastern basin. The northern shore and the Bakony Hills are additional viewpoints explicitly named for the lookout.

The National Blue Trail offers another way to explore the outdoors: it runs along the boundary of Alsóörs. This lets you distinguish two different aspects when planning—a view from the Somlyó-hegyi kilátó and the route of the trail along the municipal boundary.

Water sports and the beach

At the Alsóörsi Marina Vitorlás Klub, you can take part in sailing competitions and try different water sports. The club also organises sailing camps for children and adults. Taking part in competitions, trying different water sports and attending the camps on offer are different ways to plan a sailing-focused stay.

There is free parking in front of Községi Beach, with space for about 500 cars and 100 bicycles. These capacities are approximate. If you plan to use this parking, check the latest information before you travel.

Getting your bearings locally

Alsóörs railway station is on the main road and in the centre of the bathing district. This is a specific local reference point to help you find your way. Together with the information about the Somlyó-hegyi kilátó and parking at Községi Beach, it gives you several different points of reference around the town—without implying any particular way of travelling or place to stay.
