Discover Balatonakali: Lakeside, nature and almond traditions
Accommodation in Balatonakali
Balatonakali combines lakeside experiences with nature and cultural experiences in the village. When planning a trip, you can choose between a self-guided trail with ten stops, a shaded walking path, Mandulavirág Beach, and local almond-growing and wine-making traditions. These themes offer different starting points when choosing Balatonakali as a destination and looking for hotels.
Lakeside paths and nature
The “Titkok ösvénye” (Path of Secrets) is a self-guided trail with ten stops that showcases Balatonakali’s local heritage. Information boards and QR codes are provided at the stops. If you enjoy discovering more about a place while walking, the trail offers a clear theme to follow.
A walking path shaded by plane trees runs along the lakeside. Existing trees have been preserved and new ones planted. Information boards introduce the heritage of Balatonakali and its surroundings; they also provide information about fish in Lake Balaton, other interesting creatures, and aquatic plants. The lakeside path therefore offers both insights into the local area and information about the lake’s flora and fauna.
Forrás Park on Petőfi utca was redeveloped in the 2010s as a leisure, fitness, and play park. Its landscaped areas blend with the original marshy surroundings. The spring lies in an unspoiled area of marsh vegetation that provides a habitat for protected plants such as the fringed pink and Vitézvirág. The park thus combines landscaped areas for leisure, fitness, and play with an original wetland habitat.
Beach and seasonal activities
The lawns at Mandulavirág Beach have been renovated, and the facilities for separate waste collection have been expanded. Facilities for guests with additional needs include accessible toilets and showers, accessible play equipment, tactile guiding elements, and a tactile site model. If any of these facilities are important for your visit, confirm their condition on site in advance.
The children’s house and beach library at Mandulavirág Beach offer activities for children of kindergarten and primary-school age every year from July 1 to August 20, including hands-on arts and crafts. Parents and accompanying adults can read newspapers and borrow books. Use is free after paying the beach admission fee. If you plan to take part in these activities, check the dates for the year of your trip.
Almond and wine traditions
In Balatonakali’s vineyards, old almond trees bear witness to a century-old tradition of local almond growing. Many trees are at least a hundred years old, some with twisted trunks, and they still bear fruit. The tradition of cultivation is thus visible in the landscape.
Wine-making is also part of local tradition: Barátcsuha is a local grape variety used to make wine. The tradition also includes a press-house cellar on Fenye-hegy. Almond growing and wine-making give the local character an agricultural dimension that differs from the beach and nature themes.
