Óbudavár: Trails, Chapel and Local History
Accommodation in Óbudavár
Óbudavár combines walking routes with local history and ties to Schönstatt. When choosing a place to stay, the different route profiles, the Szent Márton püspök templom church and the Óbudavári Schönstatt-kápolna chapel are particularly interesting. Óbudavár is not easy to reach by public transport. Plan your journey in advance and check current connections.
Walking Routes and Fitness Trails
The Házaspárok útja is a 1.5-kilometre circular route: it starts at the chapel and leads back there. The route passes through woodland and meadows. Its 15 stations address important events, responsibilities, difficulties and stages of married life. The route is therefore shaped not only by its length but also by its theme. Those interested in Schönstatt and the themes of married life will find a walk here with a clear common thread.
A woodland nature trail starts at Szent Márton pihenőpark. The Línia trail has a different focus: it also serves as a woodland fitness trail, and signs at its stations indicate the corresponding exercises. The nature trail and fitness trail can therefore be distinguished by their stated focus. The Óbudavár Falukör rounds out the selection as a walking route: it is 3.3 kilometres long and can be completed on foot in less than an hour. Comparing their lengths directly, the Házaspárok útja is the shorter route at 1.5 kilometres.
Church, Chapel and Local History
The Szent Márton püspök templom church was built in 1836, with financial support from József Kopácsy. The church is a protected monument. The Óbudavári Schönstatt-kápolna chapel offers another connection to the Schönstatt Movement. It was consecrated on 2 April 2005 and is an exact replica of the Original Shrine in Schönstatt, Germany. The centre of the Hungarian Schönstatt Movement is located in Óbudavár. The church’s construction history and the replica of the shrine offer different points of interest for travellers interested in religious architecture and local history.
Szent Márton pihenőpark
The Óbudavári mosóház is a vaulted cellar marking the source of a spring. It also recalls the time when the village women washed their laundry there. In 2007, alongside the renovation of the washhouse, an event venue for up to 50 people was set up in Szent Márton pihenőpark. If you are planning an event there, check the venue’s availability in advance. The park is a visitor destination; check access before your arrival.
At the park entrance stands a carved wooden gate, clearly visible from the main road. Another landmark along the way is a Turkey oak on Kábosztáskerti út, described as 400 years old; its branches extend over the path. Such local features provide points of interest beyond the walking routes and buildings, without requiring a longer itinerary.
