Tagyon combines winemaking and village history with several named routes. From Tagyon-hegy, the panorama stretches as far as Lake Balaton. Two routes provide specific starting points for planning a tour: the 7-kilometre Panoráma út and the 6.8-kilometre round trip “Túra a Balázs templomhoz”.

Vineyards and views

Tagyon-hegy, on the edge of the village, is a vineyard area known for excellent winemaking and offers a panorama of Lake Balaton. Along the upper path of the Panoráma út, cellars and vineyards line the route. The Horváth Wine House’s cultivated areas cover just under 18 hectares and are located mainly on the southern slopes of Tagyon-hegy. The terrace at Tagyon Estate also offers views of Lake Balaton and nearby witness hills. Winemaking and landscape are therefore intertwined here, although the individual views are not all from the same location.

Routes starting from the main square

The Panoráma út starts at Tagyon’s main square, by the Faluház. It is 7 kilometres long and can be travelled on foot or by mountain bike. A hiking route towards Hegyestű branches off from it and is accessible on foot only. The “Túra a Balázs templomhoz” tour also starts at the main square, in front of the Faluház. It is a 6.8-kilometre round trip that can be travelled by car, on foot or by bicycle. From the vineyard, it offers views across the landscape and of Lake Balaton. The round trip is 0.2 kilometres shorter than the Panoráma út; the two routes also differ in the modes of transport specified.

Village history and local produce

The small Catholic church in Tagyon is dedicated to the penitent Mary Magdalene. It was built in 1764 at the expense of Jelenffy Pál, the episcopal administrator of the Diocese of Sümeg. Food production and dining are also part of the local offerings: Tagyon’s Secret Pantry is a family-run business that has been making homemade syrups and jams since 2014. The restaurant at Tagyon Estate serves bistro-style dishes. In addition to its own wines, its wine list features wines from the Nivegy Valley.

Setting within the North Lake Balaton travel region

Tagyon is one of the five villages in the Nivegy Valley. In the wider North Lake Balaton travel region, more than 500 hectares of vineyards are cultivated in the valley. It is the largest contiguous wine-growing area in the Balatonfüred-Csopak wine region and the Balaton Uplands. This regional context places the local vineyards and cultivated areas within the wider setting of the valley.

The hiking route branching off the Panoráma út heads towards Hegyestű. In the wider North Lake Balaton travel region, Hegyestű is a 337-metre-high mountain between Zánka and Monoszló. There, the interior of a basalt volcano that was active about eight million years ago is exposed. At the lookout point on the western edge of the quarry site, visitors can use a panoramic information board to identify the surrounding hills. Hegyestű also has a rock garden featuring characteristic rock types from Transdanubia.
