Discover Pollein
Accommodation in Pollein
Pollein offers visitors several specific points of interest: the Grand-Place green space, the Rock Garden, routes and the parish church of San Giorgio. There is something for everyone, from outdoor activity and geology to cultural history.
Grand-Place: green space and loop trail
The Grand-Place green space is located in the Dora Baltea floodplain within the municipality of Pollein. This location connects it both to a particular landscape and to the river. The equipped area covers around ten hectares; a 1,300-metre loop trail runs around its perimeter and is used for jogging, running and walking. The area and the loop trail represent different measures: the figure in hectares refers to the site, while the distance in metres refers to the circuit. When including Grand-Place in your day’s plans, you can consider the size of the grounds separately from the specific route.
The Rock Garden and geological insights
The Rock Garden in Pollein’s Grand-Place park features around fifty erratic boulders representing the main rock types of the Aosta Valley. The geological exhibit has been there since 1998. Each boulder has a small sign giving the rock’s name, the metamorphic environment in which it formed, its geological unit and its mineralogical composition. The approximate number conveys the scale of the exhibit, while the signs also invite visitors to examine the individual stones more closely from a geological perspective. The path through the Rock Garden is easily accessible for wheelchair users.
Routes in and around Pollein
When planning routes in Pollein, length, terrain profile, route affiliation and landscape offer different points of comparison. The Ciclovia Baltea is more than 30 kilometres long and mostly flat; length and profile describe two distinct characteristics of the route. One route in Pollein follows a section of the Cammino Balteo della Valle d’Aosta. The hike from Chenaux to the Château passes through deciduous woodland. You can therefore assess the Ciclovia in terms of its distance and terrain, while the other two descriptions highlight the route’s connection to a trail network and its woodland setting, respectively.
The parish church and the Bataille des Reines
The parish church of San Giorgio was rebuilt at the end of the 17th century. Every two years, a qualifying event for the Bataille des Reines takes place in Pollein’s Grand Place. A historic construction date and a recurring event date thus offer two distinct ways to experience Pollein’s culture. Check the date of the next event before your trip if you are planning to travel specifically to attend it.
