Soverato Marina, also known as Soverato, offers white sandy beaches and a crystal-clear, deep sea. When choosing your destination, you can consider whether, in addition to beaches and the sea, walking routes, nature or culture are important to you.

Sea, Promenade and Coastal Paths

Soverato’s 3 km-long waterfront promenade is lined with equipped beach clubs, restaurants, bars and green spaces; it also features gardens with palm trees and oleanders. Lungomare Giovanni Paolo II has wide footpaths, green spaces and areas for relaxation. It is suitable for walking, jogging and outdoor activities.

The “Baia di Soverato” Regional Marine Park was established by Regional Law No. 10/2008 and covers part of the coastal stretch within the municipality of Soverato. The history of bathing activities also goes back a long way: they have been documented in Soverato since 1881, and the beaches began to see intensive use from the 1960s onwards.

Offshore, the seabed drops away quickly. Just a few metres from the shore, you can observe fish and marine flora while snorkelling and diving. The coastal themes described therefore include both paths by the water and activities in the sea.

The Cammino Kalabria Coast to Coast begins on Lungomare Europa. It runs north for about 2 km along a completely car-free waterfront promenade, then continues along the beach to Lido Tamada Beach. Take extra care on the beach section during storms. The approximately 2 km refers to the promenade; the nature trail as a whole is 55 km long. It starts on the Ionian beaches of the Costa degli Aranci in Soverato and passes through Petrizzi, San Vito sullo Ionio and Monterosso Calabro before reaching Pizzo on the Costa degli Dei. The landscape described includes olive groves, vineyards, grain fields, chestnut and beech forests, and the natural area around Lago Angitola.

Gardens and Marine Themes

The Santicelli Botanical Garden focuses on Mediterranean flora and panoramic views over the Gulf of Squillace. The garden is now used for walks and events. This garden landscape complements the coastal and marine themes with a glimpse of the plant life.

The MUDIMAR Museo Didattico del Mare offers educational and recreational activities for young people. Its focus is the biodiversity and habitats of the Calabrian sea. Activities include workshops, film screenings, excursions and guided tours.

Architecture, Art and Surroundings

The Chiesa del Rosario dates from the 17th century and has a neo-Gothic façade. The Torre Antica was built as a watchtower, along with other defensive structures, to protect against Saracen raids. Commonly known as the Torre di Carlo V, it is considered one of Soverato’s landmarks. Corso Umberto is a venue for cultural and social events.

The ruins of Soverato Vecchio, near Soverato Marina, are a destination for excursions. Also nearby, Castello di Poliporto was built in the 18th century to protect maritime trade. Another connection to art history is the marble sculpture group Pietà del Gagini: Antonello Gagini created it in 1521; it depicts Mary holding Christ, taken down from the cross, in her arms. Cultural events and concerts are held particularly at Largo Cardillo in Soverato Superiore.

Fish Cuisine and Events

The Sagra del Pesce continues a fish festival tradition that has lasted for decades and offers an opportunity to rediscover the flavours of Calabrian seafood cuisine. A municipal notice from 2026 refers to the sixth edition. A municipal notice from 2026 refers to the ninth edition of Alba a Soverato. The event combines sport, nature and culture and includes a walk of about 2 km at sunrise. A fish festival and an event combining movement, nature and culture thus represent different kinds of events. If you would like to include an event in your travel plans, check the dates in advance.
