Discover Arcevia
Accommodation in Arcevia
Explore Arcevia through your specific interests: its theatre architecture, archaeological finds, sacred art and trails within the municipality each offer a different focus. If you are looking for a hotel in Arcevia, these themes can help guide your plans for your stay. The cultural attractions range from historic architectural styles to collections spanning different periods. In the western part of the municipality, trails can be explored on foot or by mountain bike.
Culture between theatre, archive and archaeology
The Teatro Misa was reconstructed in the Palazzo dei Priori between 1840 and 1845. Its auditorium is horseshoe-shaped and has three tiers of boxes. Two aspects are therefore important when considering the theatre: its reconstruction places its architectural history in the 19th century, while the shape of the auditorium and the tiers of boxes describe its architectural design.
The Centro San Francesco is housed in a former Franciscan monastery near Piazza Garibaldi. It contains a Historical Archive with around 1,800 parchment documents dating from the 13th to the 16th century. The archaeological collections at the Museo Archeologico Statale focus on a different period.
The Museo Archeologico Statale is in the historic centre of Arcevia and brings together archaeological materials from the municipality dating from prehistoric times to the Roman period. It displays flint tools from the Upper Palaeolithic period found at Ponte di Pietra, as well as a reconstruction of an archaeological layer documented during excavations. This brings together a broad span of time and specific examples of finds. The museum can be entered through the main entrance at Corso Giuseppe Mazzini 64.
Buildings and planning your visit
The Collegiata di San Medardo houses works by Luca Signorelli, Giovanni della Robbia and Ercole Ramazzani. Guided tours are available by prior reservation and last at least one hour. You can plan this visit as a separate cultural stop, allowing time for a reservation and an appropriate time slot.
Castello di Palazzo stands on a hill at an altitude of 516 metres, at the foot of Monte Caudino. The walled centre has an unusual urban layout that follows the contours of the hillside. Its impressive sections of stone and brick walls, along with a 15th-century gateway, bring its architectural features to life. A short urban trek takes you through the castle’s lanes; the layout of the settlement is as much a feature as the individual building elements.
Trails around Monte della Croce
Trails run around Monte della Croce and Monte della Guardia in the western part of the municipality of Arcevia. They can be explored on foot or by mountain bike and pass through sections that are sometimes wooded and sometimes offer panoramic views. Some trails are not yet specifically signposted—a practical point to consider when planning a particular route.
The Anello del Monte della Croce circular trail starts from a small settlement in the municipality and passes through pine, hornbeam and oak woods on its way to the summit of Monte della Croce. The focus differs depending on which route you choose: on the trails in the western part of the municipality, the mode of travel and the mix of wooded and panoramic sections are relevant; on the Anello, the circular route, the tree species mentioned and the summit destination are its defining features.
