Laives can be discovered from different perspectives: hiking trails lead towards the Brantental valley or to a viewpoint above the town, while churches and an Iron Age hillfort offer insights into the area's history. When planning your trip, it helps to distinguish these destinations by starting point and theme. This lets you decide whether to focus on a trail starting in the town centre, a hike to the Titschenwarte viewpoint, or historic sites.

Hiking towards the Brantental valley and the Titschenwarte viewpoint

The Leiferer Höhenweg starts at the intersection of Kennedystraße and Weißensteinerstraße in the town centre. It initially follows Weißensteinerstraße and passes the parish church; then the route continues for about four kilometres into the Brantental valley. The route can therefore be understood by following its sequence: from the starting point in town, past the church and on towards the valley. Check current trail conditions before setting off.

Another hiking destination is the Titschenwarte, a viewing platform above Laives. From there, the view stretches across the Dolomites, including the Schlern, Rosengarten and Latemar. Trails 1 and 5A lead from the Schneiderwiesen restaurant to the viewing platform in about 45 minutes. This time estimate applies to this starting point and destination; use it as a guide when planning your own hike. Here too, it is advisable to check local conditions before setting out.

The two route descriptions answer different questions: the Höhenweg starts in the town centre and runs into the Brantental valley, while the route to the Titschenwarte starts at the Schneiderwiesen restaurant and comes with an approximate walking time. If you choose a route by its starting point, you can compare these details directly. The Titschenwarte is the destination described for views of the named Dolomite peaks; the Höhenweg, by contrast, leads towards the Brantental valley.

Churches with different historical connections

The parish church of Sant'Antonio Abate and San Nicolò combines historic and modern sections. The historic section was first mentioned in 1286 and contains the sculpture of the Madonna di Pietralba, described as miraculous. The modern section was built from 2000 onwards and consecrated in 2004. These dates bring the church's different historical layers into focus: the early historical reference is followed by the construction and consecration of the modern section at the start of the 21st century. When visiting the parish church, you can therefore take in both its long history and its more recent building phase.

The church of San Pietro also has a historical connection: it was formerly the chapel of Lichtenstein Castle. Together with the parish church, it offers a varied view of Laives' ecclesiastical history, although the two sites do not tell the story of the same period. The parish church is documented through an early mention, a sculpture and a modern section; San Pietro is identified by its former role as a chapel.

A hillfort on Monte Largo

The area's history also includes Enzbirg, an Iron Age hillfort on Monte Largo. The site lies on the border between the municipalities of Laives and Nova Ponente. This sets Enzbirg apart from the church sites: here, the focus is on an archaeological structure from the Iron Age, and the location is specifically identified as lying on a municipal boundary. If you are interested in cultural heritage, you can consider this hillfort alongside the churches' architectural and historical uses. The three subjects—the former chapel role of San Pietro, the different sections of the parish church, and Enzbirg as an Iron Age hillfort—each offer a different way to explore the area's past.

Hiking and cultural heritage therefore offer different ways to shape your stay in Laives. You can use the stated starting points and approximate times as a guide, and distinguish between church architecture, former uses and archaeological context when visiting the historic sites.
