Salurn: Haderburg Castle, culture and hiking trails
Accommodation in Salurn
Salurn lies along the South Tyrolean Wine Road. Historic architecture, the history of Haderburg Castle and hiking trails offer different ways to shape a trip. If you’re looking for a hotel in Salurn, you can plan your stay around whether you’d prefer to explore the historic centre or include trails through the surrounding landscape.
Church, façades and history
The present-day Church of St Andrew dates from 1628–1640 and is one of the earliest examples of religious Renaissance architecture in the Province of Bolzano. Its Baroque high altar was created in 1646 by the Zugna brothers. The church therefore brings together an early Renaissance building and a Baroque high altar from a later period.
A walking trail through the historic centre draws attention to the historic façades of old houses along Via Trento and in the upper part of the village. It focuses on the village’s built heritage rather than placing a single building at the centre of attention.
The Scoprire Museum tells the story of Haderburg Castle, Salurn’s castle. It also displays finds from archaeological excavations in the “Doss della Forca” area south of Salurn. The castle’s history and the archaeological finds are presented as distinct historical topics. The Scoprire Adventure Haderburg Museum has step-free access.
Festivals and Haderburg Castle
The traditional Torbogenfest takes place in the village centre every year at Pentecost. In summer, Haderburg Castle hosts various events, including concerts, castle tours and themed evenings. If you’d like to plan your trip around one of these events, check the dates for your travel year.
You can reach Haderburg Castle on foot via a forest road called the “Sentiero delle Visioni”. Trail conditions can vary depending on the season, so take this into account when planning your route.
Hiking trails and landscape
Mount Madrutta offers numerous hiking trails, some of which are also suitable for pushchairs. This does not apply to every trail, and suitability can vary depending on conditions.
The Sentiero delle scalette leads from the “Cascata” recreation area to a forest road and the “al palon” viewpoint. In Cauria di Salorno, the Kneipp facility offers various Kneipp treatments and has step-free access.
Above Salurn, mixed and coniferous forests surround the villages of Buchholz and Gfrill. Parts of these forests are incorporated into the Trudner Horn Nature Park. The area above Salurn is also criss-crossed by several hiking trails, including the European long-distance trail E5.
An varied hike from Pochi/Buchholz to Lago Santo follows the historic Dürerweg through the forests of Monte Corno Nature Park.
Getting around by train and bike
A cycle route runs along the Adige through the valley floor to Trento and Bolzano. Regional trains to Bolzano, Trento and Verona stop at Salurn station. While the cycle route connects Trento and Bolzano, Verona is an additional destination mentioned for train travel. Check regional train timetables before setting off.
