Treviso: Discover Art, River and Nature
Accommodation in Treviso
The Sile flows through the streets of Treviso. Isola della Pescheria was created in the Cagnan to house the fish market; museums and churches complement this historic connection to the city with art from different centuries. Other themes for a trip to Treviso include cycling along the Sile and exploring the source areas of Parco della Storga. If you’re looking for a hotel in Treviso, you can plan your stay around whether the city’s history, art or nature is your main focus.
Museums, frescoes and history
The Museo Santa Caterina complex was established from 1346 onwards as a monastery of the Servite Order, on the remains of the destroyed palace of the Da Camino lords of Treviso. It includes a church dedicated to Saint Catherine of Alexandria. Inside, you can see 14th- and 15th-century frescoes, including the cycle of Saint Ursula by Tomaso da Modena. The museum also has an archaeological section and a gallery of medieval, Renaissance and modern art. Its architectural history, sacred spaces and collections offer different ways to explore Treviso’s past.
The Museo Luigi Bailo focuses on artistic works from the 19th and 20th centuries and houses more than 150 works by Arturo Martini. It complements the Museo Santa Caterina’s range of periods and subjects with a different artistic focus. The Church of San Nicolò is also worth a visit for art lovers: it lies within Treviso’s city walls, in the southwest of the city. Its columns feature 14th-century frescoes from the school of Tommaso da Modena. Treviso’s cultural heritage also includes an altarpiece featuring Titian’s Annunciation.
The Museo Etnografico Provinciale Case Piavone offers a different focus. It is housed in a rural architectural complex whose origins date back to the late 17th century. Temporary exhibitions and events on folk traditions complement the museum’s subject matter; individual programmes vary. In Treviso, art history collections, sacred frescoes and explorations of folk traditions sit side by side.
The Sile and its natural areas
For cycling enthusiasts, the cycle path along the Sile from Treviso to Casale sul Sile combines art, history and nature. Another experience by the river is the Burci Cemetery, reached via a path along the Sile. Walkways lead between the wrecks and through richly diverse natural surroundings. The two attractions are distinct: the cycling route starts in Treviso and ends in Casale sul Sile, while the Burci Cemetery is a separate point of interest along the river path.
Parco della Storga covers 67 hectares and extends across the municipalities of Treviso and Carbonera. Its distinctive natural features include groundwater emergence areas, where groundwater reaches the surface and forms unique ecological systems. Those interested in landscapes and nature will find a different focus here than in the city’s art collections and churches.
Parco Naturale Regionale del Fiume Sile can be reached from Treviso railway station by bus no. 5. The bus heads towards S. Cristina and Quinto di Treviso, stopping at S. Maria del Sile. Check the route details before setting off.
Regional experiences and travel planning
The local cuisine offers another way to experience the landscape: Radicchio Rosso di Treviso IGP is grown around Treviso and features on a culinary route through the region. Regional produce adds to the cultural, historical and nature-focused themes of a trip.
Tailor your hotel search to your own travel plans, without assuming any particular focus.
