Discover Feinsum: Church, harbour and cycle routes
Accommodation in Feinsum
If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in Feinsum, the themes of your trip can help you choose your destination: church architecture, local history, water or cycling. Feinsum offers specific points of interest for each of these themes.
Church architecture and local history
Sint Vituskerk is a brick hall church dating from the 13th century. Its chancel has a flat east end, and the west tower has a saddle roof. The church also houses a bell dating from 1477. This places 13th-century architecture alongside a dated furnishing from the 15th century as distinct historical reference points. A hall church is a church space without side aisles.
The Trijehoek stands at the entrance to Feinsum harbour. If you are making a special trip to see it, check its location in advance. In the 20th century, it was used during severe ice conditions to keep the Feinsumer Feart clear of snow for ice skating. Hans Jouta’s artwork “Tiidreizgje” recalls the time when trains ran through Feinsum.
The Slagdijkster molen / Slachdykster Mûne is located in Finkum (Feinsum). It adds an example of industrial heritage to the history of the church and railway.
Waterways and It Spoardok
The Feinsumerfeart is part of the Northern Frisian Eleven Cities Tour route. Since 2013, this route has been navigable by boats with a draught of up to 1.30 metres and a maximum clearance height of 2.40 metres. Both measurements matter when planning: draught and clearance height relate to different requirements for a boat. Check the current waterway conditions before setting off.
It Spoardok is a large play and recreation area in the centre of Feinsum; its facilities may be updated over time. The small, peaceful and sheltered It Spoardok marina welcomes visitors passing through. Fishing and swimming are also possible there. Check local conditions before swimming.
Cycling through history and along the route
The former railway line through Feinsum is now a cycle path between Feinsum and Hijum. Check the current path conditions before your ride. A historic cycling route of around 40 km has been developed along the information panels about the States and can also be ridden in sections. The different details can help you choose a route: for the cycle path, the connection between Feinsum and Hijum and the former railway line are the key points; the States route is characterised by its approximate total length, information panels and the option to ride individual sections.
Church architecture, art and industrial history offer a different focus from water activities and cycling. These themes can help you decide whether Feinsum suits your travel interests before you look for a hotel for your stay.
