For planning your trip to Andijk, the dike landscape, activities on the IJsselmeer and cultural sites offer different points of interest. If you are looking for a hotel, you can first consider whether you would like to explore on foot or by bike, prefer activities on the water, or plan to visit museums and sites of architectural interest.

The dike landscape near Andijk

The curving Westfriese Omringdijk near Andijk is well suited to cycling and walking. Its landscape is characterised by grass and, in places, basalt blocks. From the dike landscape, there are views of the rural hinterland with Westfriese stolp farmhouses and of the expansive waters. Exploring on foot or by bike lets you experience the same distinctive landscape in different ways; the view takes in both the agricultural hinterland and open water.

Walking and navigation

“Polderpaden” is a themed walking route along West Friesland’s existing walking network. Information boards and walking posts with QR codes are placed along the route. The QR codes provide background information or short descriptions of sights and places of interest. The Proefpolderwandeling is about 3.6 kilometres long. The two routes offer different kinds of guidance: Polderpaden is a themed walk with information along the way, while the approximate distance of the Proefpolderwandeling gives you a specific figure to plan around.

Activities on and in the water

In and around the IJsselmeer, in the De Vooroever recreation area near Andijk, you can swim, fish, walk and kitesurf. De Vooroever brings together several activities; Visput Andijk is a specific fishing destination and is accessible to wheelchair users and people with reduced mobility. Check the current access conditions before visiting Visput.

Boating experiences and harbour

From its base in Andijk, Dragonfly Rib Events explores the IJsselmeer, the Markermeer and the Frisian coast. The company offers packages, expeditions and individually planned experiences. Jachthaven Andijk is a starting point for trips on the IJsselmeer and the Wadden Sea. Jachthaven Andijk is a full-service harbour; everything you need for your boat is within walking distance. These offer different ways to experience the water: Dragonfly provides several types of experiences and explores three areas, while the marina serves as a starting point for trips on two bodies of water.

Museums and architectural history

Andijk has three museums. Hoedenmuseum Zet ‘m op displays Wil Gorter’s hat collection to the public, with about 400 hats; visitors may try some of them on. Talks about hats and their stories are available by appointment, at the museum or at another location.

Gereformeerde Kerk Andijk dates from 1929, was designed by architect Egbert Reitsma and has been a Rijksmonument since 1985. Its construction date, architect and listed status offer different perspectives on the building. For a cultural focus, there are different ways to explore: a public collection where you can try on some of the hats, and a church building with information about its construction, design and listed status.
