Get to know Breezand through several distinct themes: the spring Flower Days, the village’s history on former seabed, and its nature and leisure facilities. If you’re looking for a hotel in Breezand, this overview can help you plan your trip around your main interests. If you’re visiting during the Flower Days, check the dates for that year; the exact dates change.

The spring Flower Days

The Flower Days in Anna Paulowna and Breezand date back to the 1950s; nine people took part in 1953. They take place every spring in Anna Paulowna, Breezand and the surrounding area. During the event, around a hundred floral mosaics are displayed in gardens; the number may vary from year to year. The event thus combines a recurring seasonal setting with changing dates and displays made from flowers. During the Flower Days, visitors can reach the event locations across the wider region by car, bus or bicycle.

Local history and buildings

The historical account “Van zee naar bloeiend dorp” describes how Breezand came into being on land that was still sea less than two centuries ago. It links the village’s history to the transformation of the land from sea to dry land. Individual buildings also offer a connection to the past: the Sint-Jan-de-Evangelist Church in Breezand was solemnly consecrated by Dean Guilonard of Schagen on 13 September 1931. Part of the stolp farmhouse at Stoomweg 59 has provincial-monument status. The account, the church’s consecration date and the limited monument status point to different aspects of Breezand’s history.

Nature and facilities in Breezand

The Meerbos in Breezand is an edible forest among the Noordkop’s flower-bulb fields. Visitors can experience nature there through a presentation or guided tour. Kinderboerderij De Regenmortel offers a different experience: it is a petting zoo in the centre of Breezand, at Pastoor Verhoeffpark. Zwembad Den Krieck is also in the centre and has a 25-metre pool, a teaching pool and a paddling pool for toddlers. Nature, the petting zoo and the swimming pool cater to different interests. If you plan to visit the swimming pool, check the latest operating information beforehand, as it may change.
