Discover Dirkshorn: Trails, golf and village history
Accommodation in Dirkshorn
Dirkshorn lies amid vast agricultural fields. When looking for a hotel in Dirkshorn, you can first consider whether you would prefer to connect your stay with the walking trails, the seasonal outdoor pool or the village’s history. These attractions differ considerably: the trails vary in surface and route, while the church offers a focus on architectural history.
Routes with different layouts
The blue Sea Route is a circular trail around Meertje van Dirkshorn and runs along shell paths and grass-covered dykes. The red Groenveld Route is mostly on grass, heading towards the hamlet of Groenveld and along the West Dike of the Voorpolder. After Meertje van Dirkshorn, the purple Woudmeer Route heads south along the Woudmeerpad beside the Ring Canal of Waarland. The green Galgenkade Route runs along Groenvelderweg between the golf courses. Check local route conditions before setting out.
The trails can be compared by features other than colour: the blue route is explicitly a circular trail, while the other descriptions focus on grass, direction or a distinctive section of the route. This lets you first decide whether the route shape, surface or course is most important to you.
Golfbaan Dirkshorn
Golfbaan Dirkshorn is an 18-hole, par-72 course covering 55 hectares. It has NGF A status and is suitable for club and national competitions. These figures describe different points of comparison: the number of holes, par and area indicate the course format and size, while its status and suitability for competitions indicate its sporting scope. The course and its maintenance comply with the requirements of the GEO/Committed to Green environmental label, awarded since 2011. For golf enthusiasts, course details, competition credentials and environmental maintenance offer separate points of reference.
Village church: building history and features
The Nederlands Hervormde Kerk in Dirkshorn was built in 1868 by architect B. Sleister in the eclectic style. It contains a pulpit that originally dates from the 17th century, as well as an organ from 1870. The pulpit is considerably older than the church building, while the organ dates from around the time it was built. From a cultural and architectural history perspective, the church is considered a well-preserved example of a Protestant village church built in the eclectic style in the second half of the 19th century. Its eclectic style and the different periods represented by its features offer a tangible connection to the area’s history.
Seasonal swimming and cycling
De Veersloot swimming pool is a seasonal outdoor pool with two heated pools. If swimming is important to your trip, take its seasonal opening into account when choosing your dates. Getting around locally is not limited to walking trails: at TOP Dirkshorn, you can park your car and start a cycling tour. This starting point for cycling is a separate planning consideration from the walking trails described above, whose surfaces and routes answer a different question.
