Discover Ciechocinek
Accommodation in Ciechocinek
Ciechocinek combines a striking ensemble of graduation towers and a saltworks with parks, spa history and designated leisure activities. To plan your stay, you can group the topics according to your interests: the historic ensemble and the museum represent salt production and spa treatments, the parks bring together natural features and distinctive wooden buildings, and the hiking trails vary in length and route.
Graduation towers, saltworks and spa history
The complex of graduation towers and saltworks, together with Tężniowy Park and Zdrojowy Park, has been recognized as a Pomnik Historii (Historic Monument) since 22 November 2017. The recognition was granted by a decree of Polish President Andrzej Duda. The three graduation towers are 1,742.3 metres long in total and just under 16 metres high; they are considered the largest graduation towers in the world. These figures give the ensemble a concrete sense of scale, while its historical significance is reflected in its protected status.
The Muzeum Warzelni Soli i Lecznictwa Uzdrowiskowego is devoted to salt production and the development of spa treatments. Its exhibits include carefully restored equipment for therapeutic gymnastics by Wilhelm Zander. The museum thus offers a distinct perspective on the history of salt production and the development of therapeutic treatments. If these topics are of particular interest to you, you can think of a museum visit alongside the graduation tower and saltworks ensemble.
Parks and distinctive details
Zdrojowy Park, Ciechocinek’s oldest park, also known as Park Główny, is home to more than 140 plant species. Its features include lush vegetation with rare tree and shrub species, as well as wooden buildings typical of Ciechocinek: a music pavilion in the Zakopane style and a pump room. A floral clock stands at the park entrance, and a monument to Stanisław Staszic stands at its centre. The clock is designed as a dial; several thousand flowers are planted for it each year. Beneath the raised mound, an electric mechanism designed by J. Hibner moves the hands.
The oldest part of Park Tężniowy stretches from Plac Gdański towards Graduation Tower No. 1 and is mainly used for walking and relaxation. The main walking route, known as the Promenade, runs through the southwest, bordered by dense trees. The two parks therefore also differ in their described highlights: in Zdrojowy Park, the focus is on plants, wooden buildings and individual monuments, while the older part of Tężniowy Park and its promenade are described as places for walking.
Hiking and cycling trails
Several hiking trails pass through Ciechocinek or connect it with other destinations. The red Toruń–Ciechocinek–Nieszawa hiking trail passes through the town and is about 41 kilometres long. The yellow “Kujawski” hiking trail follows the route Podole–Ciechocinek–Wołuszewo–Aleksandrów Kujawski–Służewo and is about 24 kilometres long. Two shorter trails are each about eight kilometres long but head in different directions: the green “Krystynki” trail runs from Ciechocinek via Kuczek to Raciążek, while the blue “Wiślany” trail runs from Ciechocinek via Słońsk Dolny to Wołuszewo. The stated distances help you compare the routes without specifying a walking time.
A longer route is also designated for cycling: the Toruń–Ciechocinek–Włocławek cycle route passes through Ciechocinek and is about 63 kilometres long. The hiking and cycling routes therefore differ both in distance and in their stated routes.
Leisure by the water
The municipal Vistula beach, Plaża Miejska nad Wisłą im. prof. Marka Grzesia, has beach volleyball courts, gazebos and a barbecue area. As these facilities may change, it is a good idea to check which of the listed amenities are available for your plans before visiting.
The water playground and summer pools complex, im. Heleny Prawdzic-Kuczalskiej, covers just under one hectare. It includes numerous water attractions, outdoor pools and three slides, including the 110-metre-long “Anakonda.” The summer facilities are seasonal; check the specific operating dates before your visit. The former Park Millennium on Staszica Street also has tennis courts, a climbing wall, a ropes course and a café. Availability of these leisure facilities may also change.
