Discover Moczadła: Nature and trails in the municipality of Skępe
Accommodation in Moczadła
Moczadła is located in Poland, in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, Lipno County and the municipality of Skępe. When planning your trip, it is worth taking a look at the area's landscape features and the nature and leisure attractions within the municipality.
Landscape and nature in Moczadła and Skępe
According to the forest management plan dated 1 January 2026, areas in Moczadła are part of the Obszar Chronionego Krajobrazu Jezioro Skępskie, the Jezioro Skępskie Protected Landscape Area. A plot containing a small 0.04-hectare bog also forms part of the water-protection forest in Moczadła. These detailed local facts offer a concrete glimpse of the area's landscape character.
The Skępe area has glacial channels filled with lakes, which the Mień River partly follows. The Skępskie Lakes form the area's largest hydrographic complex and are linked by the Mień. Lakes and river courses thus shape the wider natural landscape, although this does not imply any particular trail connection.
The Torfowisko Mieleńskie nature reserve is a special feature of the area's natural heritage. It is home to 241 plant species, including the dwarf birch and nine relict bog plants. Access restrictions may apply when visiting the reserve; take these into account when planning your trip.
Hiking trails and water activities
The municipality of Skępe has two forest nature trails: Na Stary Zagaj is 13 kilometres long, and the Głęboczek trail is 4.2 kilometres long. Both are located in the Jezioro Skępskie Protected Landscape Area and combine recreation with nature observation; numerous information boards line the trails. Their different lengths can help you choose the distance that suits you. Check trail conditions and access before setting out.
Another route runs along the Mień near the mill in Żuchowo. Protected ground-layer plant species grow along the riverbanks. The mill dates from the late 19th century and is built using half-timbering. If you plan to follow this route, check the local signage when you arrive.
Possible activities at the lakes in the municipality of Skępe include water sports, fishing and relaxation. The bathing facility at Jezioro Skępskie Wielkie has a marked swimming area, a beach area for recreation and sport, a pier, toilets, changing rooms, a lifeguard station and a designated beach area for children. Check which facilities are currently available before your visit.
A pier about 50 metres from the bathing facility is used for renting kayaks, pedal boats and rowing boats. If you want to use a particular type of boat, check its availability before you travel. This lets you take the bathing facility and boat rental information into account when planning, without assuming that anything is currently available.
Cultural attraction in Skępe
Cultural heritage offers another reason to visit: the Bernardine monastery complex in Skępe is considered one of the largest and most important pilgrimage sites in Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship and Masovia. Its features include richly furnished interiors and a necropolis associated with a prominent regional family.
