Sępólno Krajeńskie: between the lake, trails and history
Accommodation in Sępólno Krajeńskie
For routes, you can choose between a 7.5-kilometre hiking trail and an approximately 17-kilometre hiking and cycling route. Local history is represented by the parish church, the cemetery of St. Bartholomew’s Parish and the Izba Dziedzictwa Kulturowego.
Compare hiking and cycling routes
The black-marked Szlak Sępoleński hiking trail is 7.5 kilometres long. It runs from Sępólno Krajeńskie via Dziechowo to Lutówko, following the northern shores of Jezioro Sępoleńskie and Jezioro Lutowskie. The named places, lakes and route length give you specific points of reference when planning a hike. The route is described as a hiking trail, distinguishing it from the longer hiking and cycling route around Jezioro Sępoleńskie.
This other route is approximately 17 kilometres long, starts and ends in Sępólno Krajeńskie, and passes through Krajeński Landscape Park. Compared with Szlak Sępoleński, it is longer and is specifically described as suitable for cycling as well. Its course also differs: this route goes around a lake, while the black-marked hiking trail runs via Dziechowo to Lutówko and along the northern shores of two lakes. So when choosing between the two routes, you can take the distance, means of transport and course into account.
Activities by the lake and along the promenade
From the harbour on Jezioro Sępoleńskie, you can set off on a boat trip or watch sailing regattas held on the lake. These are different ways to spend time by the water: a boat trip focuses on the journey itself, while a regatta is about sailing on the lake. If you plan to attend a regatta, it is best to check the event dates in advance.
A cycle path runs along the entire promenade, where you will also find benches and bicycle parking. When planning a cycling trip, the facilities mentioned along the promenade are relevant as well as the route itself. The cycle path, seating and bicycle parking are a separate highlight from the boat trips and sailing regattas on Jezioro Sępoleńskie.
Church and everyday history
The parish church of St. Bartholomew the Apostle in Sępólno Krajeńskie dates from 1799 to 1812. The cemetery of St. Bartholomew’s Parish on ul. Chojnicka dates from 1882. The church and cemetery thus offer different historical reference points: the church is associated with a period of several years, while the cemetery is associated with a single year. If you are interested in local history, you can consider these two dates separately.
The Izba Dziedzictwa Kulturowego displays, among other things, a dough trough, a spinning wheel, spindles, a hand mangle, kerosene lamps and shoe stretchers. The objects represent different aspects of everyday life: the dough trough was used for baking, the spinning wheel and spindles for spinning, the hand mangle for smoothing, and the shoe stretchers for shoe care. Kerosene lamps add objects used for lighting to the collection. The Izba also displays a wooden bed from the mid-19th century. Alongside the tools, the bed draws attention to home furnishings; together, the items mentioned offer different glimpses of everyday objects from the past.
