Turzno can be explored through several distinct themes: a Neoclassical chapel in the centre of the village, Fryderyk Chopin’s visits, the landscape park and the garden pavilion Zameczek. A cycling route with Turzno in its name is also part of the picture. Local history and architecture thus sit alongside parkland and cycling—different focal points that you can weigh according to your interests when planning your stay.

Building history and local culture

A Neoclassical chapel stands in the centre of the village. It was endowed by the Jeżewski family in 1800. Fryderyk Chopin visited Turzno in 1825 and again in 1827. The timeline therefore runs from the endowment in 1800 to two later, individually dated visits. For those interested in culture, a specific building with a named founding family and two biographical connections to the village sit side by side.

The Neo-Gothic garden pavilion Zameczek behind the palace has a history of its own. Count Augustyn Działowski had it built around 1850. After the war, the building fell into disrepair; in 2011, it was rebuilt. Today, it houses a chapel where weddings are often held. The sequence of construction, deterioration and rebuilding makes the pavilion’s history easy to follow.

The Pałac Romantyczny hotel and conference complex in Turzno was officially opened on 14 February 2012. The opening date adds a more recent historical reference point to the older building histories. The style terms also help distinguish the sites: the chapel in the centre of the village is Neoclassical, while the Zameczek pavilion is Neo-Gothic. Neoclassical architecture draws on ancient models, while Neo-Gothic architecture revives forms from the Gothic period. Those interested in architecture can thus distinguish different styles and their respective histories.

Parkland and outdoor activities

The English-style landscape park surrounding the palace in Turzno covers 16 hectares. It dates from the first half of the 19th century and contains 54 species of coniferous and deciduous trees. These include Douglas fir, Caucasian wingnut, American tulip tree and swamp oak. The park’s area, origins and tree species offer different ways to look at the grounds: their size, historical context and botanical composition. If you are interested in historic landscape design, the park offers a distinct focus alongside the individual buildings. It offers a different perspective on the buildings: here, the focus is on the grounds’ area, origins and tree species rather than the history of a single building.

During a PTTK walking excursion on 8 July 2026, participants walked along the paths of the castle park. Along the way, they completed tasks from the quest “Turzna historia niezwykła” to learn about local history. The excursion combined the park paths with a hands-on exploration of Turzno’s history.

Cycling is another notable feature. The Różankowo–Lulkowo and Kamionki Małe–Turzno cycling route was officially opened in Turzno on 10 September 2020. If you are planning a bike ride today, check the current route conditions in advance.
