Młodocin combines a historic palace and park complex with hiking and cycling routes that pass through the village. This gives you two distinct themes to consider when planning your trip: the architecture and old trees on the one hand, and walking or cycling tours on the other. If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in Młodocin, this distinction can help you decide on the purpose of your trip first.

Location and architecture

The palace and park complex lies 6 km west of Barcin on Route No. 251 between Inowrocław and Żnin. The details serve different purposes for orientation: the distance refers to Barcin, while the road location refers to the route between Inowrocław and Żnin. The complex is privately owned. If you are considering a visit, check in advance whether visiting is possible. The manor house is decorated at the front with a columned portico that supports a balcony. A portico is a projection supported by columns. The palace is a brick building in the neoclassical style; neoclassicism draws on forms of classical architecture. Portico and balcony refer to individual architectural elements, brick to the building material, and neoclassicism to the style.

Park and trees

The park belonging to the palace and park complex covers 1.2 hectares, equivalent to around 12,000 square metres. Its main tree species are European white elms, Norway maples, common ash trees, small-leaved lindens, and black locusts. The old trees designated as natural monuments include two small-leaved lindens with trunk circumferences of 310 and 550 cm, and a pedunculate oak with a trunk circumference of 330 cm. The pedunculate oak’s trunk circumference is 20 cm greater than that of the smaller small-leaved linden; at 550 cm, the other small-leaved linden has the largest measurement of the three trees. While the species list describes the park’s predominant tree cover, the natural monuments highlight three individual trees with measurable characteristics.

On foot and by bike

The blue-marked Szlak Pałucki hiking trail passes through Młodocin. The 4 km section within Barcin municipality offers the opportunity to visit Młodocin and Pturek, as well as views of the Noteć River and Lake Wolickie. Check the trail’s current status before setting out. A star-shaped cycling route runs from Barcin through Wolice, Wójcin, Kierzkowo, Młodocin, Pturek, and Knieja, before returning to Barcin. The route was established in 2009 and described as scenic. Before a cycling trip, it is advisable to check the current route and markings.

Different features matter when choosing between the two tours: for hiking, the focus is on a 4 km section within the municipality and the aforementioned views of the river and lake; for cycling, the star-shaped route, the sequence of villages, and the return to Barcin provide orientation. In the stated cycling route, Młodocin lies between Kierzkowo and Pturek. This makes it possible to assess the hiking option by its section and views, and the cycling loop by its route and return point.
