All Saints Church is Babice’s main cultural and historical attraction: its history spans several centuries, and its furnishings include works of art and architectural details. Two routes are also associated with the village, though the information about them differs. If you are looking for a hotel in Babice, you can first decide whether church art and architecture or a route should be the focus of your trip.

All Saints Church: History Across Several Periods

The parish of Babice was first mentioned in 1337; All Saints Church was first mentioned in 1470. These dates refer to different historical milestones: the parish and the church. Around 1524, Bishop Jan Konarski founded a new All Saints Church in Babice. After a fire, the present-day masonry church was built in 1763. The parish’s first mention, the church’s first mention, the founding of a new church, and the later construction of the present building can therefore be understood as distinct milestones.

Architecture and Furnishings

The church was substantially expanded between 1891 and 1898. The nave was lengthened and two chapels were added, creating a kind of transept. The interior furnishings are Baroque and Rococo. The bell tower is also Baroque, built of masonry, and two stories tall. These features describe different aspects of the building: the expansion of its layout, the styles of its interior furnishings, and the construction of the tower. The nave is the main space of the church.

The artworks can also be distinguished by their location. One side altar features paintings of the Immaculate Conception and the Guardian Angel by Wojciech Eljasz, who also created the Stations of the Cross. The furnishings also include a Baroque baptismal font from the second half of the 18th century. Fragments of an early Baroque altarpiece created by Mikołaj Przybysławowicz of Kraków in 1662 are kept in the church’s rectory. The historic furnishings thus include both works in the church and a separate object in the rectory.

Two Routes with Different Landmarks

The Kraków–Moravia–Vienna Greenways route is listed in Babice at route kilometer 14.7 as a blue Greenway cycling route. The green Lipowiec Route runs through Babice; the school on ul. Parkowa is 0.7 km along the stated route from Lipowiec Castle. The descriptions offer different points of reference: for the Greenways route, they specify the route kilometer and its classification as a cycling route; for the Lipowiec Route, they give a specific section with the castle and school as landmarks. If you plan to use the Lipowiec Route, it is advisable to check the current route conditions in advance. When planning your trip, you can thus distinguish between a Greenway explicitly designated as a cycling route and the green route with the stated distance between two named points.
