Rząska borders Kraków and can be approached through three themes when planning a trip: rail connections, protected landscape and local history. If you are looking for a hotel, these themes can help determine where you stay. The key is which one best suits your travel plans: getting around by rail, an interest in the protected area or the village’s history.

Rail Connections and Orientation

The Zabierzów Rząska passenger stop is on railway line No. 133 between Dąbrowa Górnicza Ząbkowice and Kraków Główny and is served by SKA3 trains. This line takes travellers towards Zabierzów, Krzeszowice and Oświęcim; in the other direction, it goes to Kraków Główny and onward to Tarnów. The station can therefore be identified by its location on the line and the directions served. For a specific connection on your travel date, check the current timetable. If you are planning your journey around the SKA3, include the station and your planned connections in your hotel search.

Protected Area and Landscape

The “Uroczysko w Rząsce” ecological protected area covers part of the Rząska cadastral district within the Zabierzów administrative unit. It protects the marsh violet, which is classified as endangered in the Polish Red Data Book of Plants. The protected habitat includes remnants of an alder-ash riparian forest. Reed-bed communities developed on the sites of former ponds and unused meadows and pastures. These details make nature conservation the area’s clearly defined focus.

“Uroczysko w Rząsce” and “Podgołogórze” cover a total of 65.10 hectares. Both areas can only be accessed from Kraków-Bronowice via Tetmajera Street and nearby access points; check local access conditions before travelling. Podgołogórze is a small depression east of Rząska, with no access from the village side. The northeastern areas of Rząska on the slopes of Pasternik also shape the landscape: they are undeveloped and partly wooded. There are also two equipped recreation areas with shelters in northwestern Rząska.

Village History and Historic Buildings

The parish church of St Anthony of Padua was built between 1981 and 1984 on the site of an earlier chapel. That chapel commemorated the great village fire of 20 June 1887. Another chapel stands at a crossroads in the historic centre: the masonry wayside shrine dates from the early 20th century.

The new manor house in Rząska dates from around 1886 and is now a convent of the Albertine Sisters. Extensive alterations were carried out in 1950 and 1995. Next to the new manor house is a landscaped park with a few old trees dating from the second half of the 19th century. This is distinct from the former manor house, which dates from the 18th century and was demolished after 1947. A pair of carved lions from the former manor house stands at the entrance to the present building on the site of the earlier estate. The different construction dates tell the story of distinct periods in the village’s history.

Horse Breeding and Recreation Areas

The Research and Education Centre of the Faculty of Animal Sciences and Biology at the University of Agriculture focuses primarily on horse breeding. The centre includes a museum exhibition and also operates a riding centre open to the public. Hippotherapy and carriage rides are offered there. If you plan to take advantage of these activities, check the current operating rules before travelling.
