Accommodation in Dobczyce
When looking for hotels in Dobczyce, you can plan your trip around different interests: cultural history and historic wooden architecture, or paths and views at the dam. Local attractions range from exhibitions at the castle and wooden houses on the market square to a walking path, a hiking trail, a cycling route, and viewpoints. This makes it possible to plan your stay around the specific cultural and landscape features that interest you.
Cultural history and wooden architecture
The Muzeum Regionalne PTTK im. Władysława Kowalskiego is located in the reconstructed section of Dobczyce’s royal castle. The museum’s archaeological exhibition presents regional history from the Neolithic to modern times and includes finds from excavations on the castle grounds and in Dobczyce’s Old Town. Its broad time span and the two find locations root the exhibition both in a long regional history and in two specific parts of Dobczyce.
A staged torture chamber has been set up in the castle’s former prison cellar. Various instruments of torture are on display there, including finds from archaeological work. Unlike the exhibition’s broad time frame, the focus here is on a specific scene; the two displays therefore offer different perspectives.
The open-air museum of folk wooden architecture is part of the Muzeum Regionalne PTTK and is located on the Małopolski Wooden Architecture Route. Historic wooden construction takes a different form on Dobczyce’s market square: several 19th-century wooden houses stand there, with their gables facing the street. The market square is a traditional street layout. This lets you appreciate wooden architecture not only as a museum subject, but also in the way the houses are arranged around the square.
Paths and views
The paths also differ in their purpose and route. The “Śladami Historii” walking path was created to highlight important cultural sites and make them easier to reach. The yellow hiking trail is easy to place by its route and direction: it runs west alongside the castle and leads to Pasmo Ostrysza. By contrast, the yellow cycling route starts at the Dobczyce PTTK branch office on Podgórska Street. The three routes offer different points of reference when choosing: a cultural purpose, a route with a destination, or a starting point.
The crest of the Dobczyce dam can be reached through gates on Góra Jałowcowa Street and Braci Kowalskich Street, as well as via a pedestrian and cycle bridge connecting it with Castle Hill. The access points differ in form: two street gates or the bridge for pedestrians and cyclists leading to Castle Hill. A walk along the crest or to its viewpoints offers views of the reservoir and the medieval castle above Dobczyce.
