Accommodation in Chochołów
Chochołów combines the wooden buildings of its old part with cultural landmarks and destinations in the surrounding area. If you’re looking for a hotel in Chochołów, you can plan your trip around a particular interest: the historic villagescape, regional history, or a longer hike. The locations are distinct: the linear village and the church are in Chochołów; the hiking trail runs to the border near Chochołów, and the Chochołowskie Termy are on the border between Witów and Chochołów.
Wooden architecture in the old part
The wooden buildings in the old part of Chochołów form a living open-air museum of folk architecture. At the same time, the village is an example of a densely built linear village: the houses face the street with their gables, while the farm buildings behind them are grouped around courtyards. The courtyard layout is therefore as much a part of the described architectural form as the visible house fronts. Those interested in traditional folk architecture can consider two scales: the individual street-facing façade and the arrangement of the farm buildings behind it around the courtyards.
Museum and architectural history
The Muzeum Powstania Chochołowskiego presents the history of the region and is a branch of the Muzeum Tatrzańskiego. It has been housed since 1978 in a historic wooden Goralenhütte. The museum thus combines a focus on regional history with a wooden building. The Kościół św. Jacka church offers a different historical point of reference: it dates from 1853 to 1866. This makes it possible to distinguish the church and the museum chronologically. The church dates to the 19th century; 1978 marks the establishment of the museum branch.
Hiking trail and nearby destinations
For a longer outing, the red Szlak Powstania Chochołowskiego hiking trail offers specific information on distance and walking time. It runs between Poronin and the border near Chochołów and is 23.2 kilometres long. The stated walking time is 7 hours 45 minutes in one direction and 7 hours 30 minutes in the other. The times differ by 15 minutes, so plan according to your chosen direction. With its length and several-hour walking times, the trail offers a different focus for a trip than the villagescape and historic buildings.
The Chochołowskie Termy are nearby, on the border between Witów and Chochołów, along regional road 958. Their geographical location is therefore different from that of the destinations in the old part of the village. The Kompleks Skoczni Narciarskich Chochołów is also a specific built landmark: it includes the HS16 and HS30 ski jumps and was built in 2018. The two designations distinguish the jumps within the complex; the year of construction places it later than the church, which dates from 1853 to 1866. Historic architectural forms and a more recent ski-jump complex thus offer different themes for a trip.
