Czarny Dunajec brings together themes that offer practical guidance when choosing a destination: the cross-border Szlak wokół Tatr, a historically developed market square, local house styles and an indoor ice rink. Its appeal therefore ranges from cycling and local history to a sporting activity; you can tailor your trip to your interests.

Cycling route and former railway station

The paved main section of the Szlak wokół Tatr cycling route is 20.6 kilometres long and passes through Ludźmierz, Rogoźnik, Stare Bystre, Czarny Dunajec and Podczerwone. Czarny Dunajec is therefore on a route that includes several places. Check local cycling route conditions before setting out.

The former historic railway station is also connected with cycling: it was given a new role as a service point for cyclists on the cross-border Szlak wokół Tatr. In 2026, the municipality reported that its renovation had been completed. The history of the station building and its new function for cyclists come together here.

Market square and local architectural styles

The rectangular market square in Czarny Dunajec, with its side streets, was laid out in the second half of the 19th century. It took its final form during the interwar period, when the town held town rights. The square thus reflects two stages in the town’s development: its layout in the 19th century and its later final design.

The so-called dworki czarnodunajeckie show another side of the townscape. These are single-storey brick houses with a porch supported by pillars; only a few remain today. The square layout and the houses represent different aspects of local architectural history: the layout of the town centre and a house style that has become rare.

Church, cemetery and synagogue building

The Church of the Holy Trinity is located in Czarny Dunajec. The former synagogue building at 10 Sienkiewicza Street was built in the early 20th century. It is one of the few surviving tangible traces of the coexistence of different cultures in the municipality.

The Jewish cemetery was established in the second half of the 19th century. In 2020, it was renovated by the Popielów Family Foundation “Centrum” as part of the “Ludzie, nie liczby” project. The cemetery thus links its origins in the 19th century with a later renovation; for the former synagogue building, the focus is on its construction date and its significance as evidence of coexistence. Together, the church, cemetery and synagogue building offer different historical points of reference in Czarny Dunajec and the municipality.

Ice skating in Czarny Dunajec

The indoor ice rink is open to the public and offers skate rental and sharpening services. The ice surface measures 20 × 40 metres inside the boards and is designed to accommodate 70 people at a time. The dimensions describe the surface, while the capacity states the intended simultaneous occupancy.

The rental service has 150 pairs of skates and 30 helmets available. These quantities may change. Before your visit, check the latest operating information and rental stock directly with the ice rink.
