Ptaszkowa lies in a broad valley at an elevation of about 500 metres. To the north, the surrounding hills of Rosochatka (753 m) and Koziniec (560 m) frame the village; to the south rises the Podstawne–Jaworze massif, with Podstawne (818 m) and Jaworze (882 m). This setting between the valley and the ridges provides the landscape backdrop for the nature trail, paths and viewpoint. To the south, the two named heights are both over 800 metres; to the north, Rosochatka, at 753 metres, is higher than Koziniec, at 560 metres.

Nature Trail and Landscape

The Ptaszkowa nature trail partly follows the separately marked Papal Trail. The routes therefore overlap along part of their course; for navigation, do not treat them as the same route throughout.

The trail includes a viewpoint overlooking Rosochatka (753 m), Koziniec (560 m) and the centre of Ptaszkowa. A small ecological reserve along the trail protects valuable plant habitats. The nature trail also includes habitats for numerous insects and amphibians, including fire salamanders, grass frogs and common toads.

Hiking Trails and Mountain Bike Route

A blue hiking trail leads from Ptaszkowa to Krynica; a green trail runs from the summit to GrybĂłw. For navigation, the trail markings and the stated destinations are specific differences between the hiking routes. A mountain bike route runs beside the observation tower.

Cross-Country Skiing and Ropes Park

The Centrum SportĂłw Zimowych in Ptaszkowa has two asphalted, illuminated, artificially snow-covered and groomed cross-country ski trails: one is 1,000 metres long and the other 1,600 metres. Their different lengths allow for a direct comparison of the route information. If you are planning a winter visit, check the operating conditions.

The ropes park in Ptaszkowa has four separate courses that differ in height and difficulty. These features provide specific points of comparison within the park. The children’s course is primarily intended for children, but adults can use it too; it has 20 obstacles. If you are planning a visit to the ropes park, please check the opening and booking conditions in advance; they may change.

Wooden Church and Gothic Sculpture

The wooden church in Ptaszkowa was built in 1555 in the Gothic style using log construction. A Gothic Madonna and Child sculpture dating from around 1420 stands at the right-hand side altar. The dates distinguish the building from its furnishings: the sculpture is dated to an earlier period than the church. In log construction, wooden logs are stacked horizontally to form the walls. Thus, log construction describes the method of building, while Gothic refers to the style of the church.

Railway Line and Trip Planning

A railway line runs through Ptaszkowa, and train services are still possible on it. Before your trip, check whether passenger services are currently operating.
